1. I'll just stick with "IlPapa" since it works for every Pope!
Plus, I love Italian/Italians/Italy.

:loveya:

But I like "German Shepherd," too, since his nationality is a novelty, popewise.

5. Well, and he is supposed to shepherd the Church
Hoping he's a good listener, and not one addicted to the sound of his own bark...

3. A co-worker friend came up with "Pope Ratso."
He even suggested the e-mail address should be ratso@bigdome.com.

Well, if Albert Finney played John Paul II in a film, surely Dustin Hoffman can play Benedict XVI in an upcoming project. :-)

But I also like "German Shepherd." I haven't heard that one since the 1976 CYO convention in Myrtle Beach. Our then-archbishop, whose name escapes me, also termed himself the German shepherd.

6. How about Papa Joe? I was

inspired to think of that when I heard Jon Stewart call him "Joey Rat," making it sound like a Mafia name. That was the first nickname I'd heard that used his baptismal name.

I think the Daily Show has done some very funny bits, having fun at Benedict's expense but not in a nasty way. The bit about him being such an unenthusiastic Hitler Youth member that his basement is still full of unsold Hitler Youth cookies was great. "Aryan Mints, an oreo-like cookie with a cream center between two white cookies."

7. "Papa Joe" sounds like a brand of PIZZA!
I wouldn't want to compare the Holy Father with food! :D
