Cats (and other critters) in Harry Potter |
|
What's the connection between Mrs Figg and Filch, Crookshanks, and Mrs Norris? Did Mrs Norris and/or Crookshanks come from Mrs Figg? What wizarding family is she related to? Since she's a Mrs, we can assume that Figg is not her maiden name.
Also, in another thread we've been discussing weasels, badgers, stoats, ferrets, otters, and other similar creatures. Any thoughts?
Any speculation about the Patronuses of other folks?
What's the relationship between Fawkes and Dumbledore?
Where did Nagini come from? What is the relationship between Nagini and Voldemort?
Are all eagle owls evil? Draco's got one, at one point in GoF Harry sees one flying near the Durmstrang ship, and Harry is flying on one when he has the vision in divination. Are there any other mentions of eagle owls I'm neglecting?
Any other critter questions or observations?

1. Maybe Mrs. Norris was the cat that made Mrs. Figg break her leg in SS |

and she gave the cat away to Filch. I wonder if they are of an age that they bonded by being two squibs together at Hogwarts.
I believe Ron's patronus will be a lion (or for a joke a spider). Dumbledore's real life pet is a phoenix and so is his patronus. (JKR said that.) Now, following a bit of synergy what if Nagini is Voldy's pet and his patronus most assuredly (logical) to be a snake or a basilisk. Same thing in my book... She wouldn't tell what Snapes was - just for dark humor - I was going with a werewolf.
have you read "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them"?

2. I'd like to believe that most eagle owls are okay |
|
I met a lot of owls when I was working in a wildlife clinic (but only one eagle owl, because it was in North America, where our equivalent is the great-horned owl). I guess my favourite, next to the snowy, is the screech owl -- they have a lot of spirit, and when you're being attacked by a bird the size of a pop can which is convinced you're going to murder it, so it might as well go down fighting -- it's hard not to laugh.
In the "Twin Peaks" TV series, the evil spirit assumes the guise of a great-horned. I always hoped that people didn't take the story literally because the poor birds have enough to deal with (many of the owls brought into the clinic had gunshot wounds). I was responsible for feeding one of the newly-hatched chicks until we could find a foster mother for it ... he was cute, but the great-horned I liked best was Virginia (blind in both eyes so she couldn't be released, but we would take her round the schools to show kids what owls are like up close). She was very gentle and was one of the few birds we had who could be handled without gloves.

7. actually Mrs. is probably a term of respect for her |
|
since she's older
I don't think we can assume that she's been married
Crookshanks came for Diagon Alley, I think
and Mrs. Norris has been with Filch for years
