Mayor Gavin Newsom's Office of San Francisco is granting Books Inc., the West's Oldest Independent Bookseller since 1851, an official proclamation declaring July 15, 2005, All Potter's Eve. This is the day before the highly anticipated release of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, which is available for sale at 12:01 a.m., Saturday, July 16, and not a moment before.

Books Inc. is hosting All Potter's Eve midnight release parties for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, beginning Friday evening, July 15, 2005 at eight Books Inc. locations. A portion of sales during the midnight parties at Books Inc. stores will be donated to local school libraries and school service organizations.

Mayor Gavin Newsom's Office is making the proclamation because of the dramatic impact the Harry Potter books have had in increasing literacy by influencing many children to read who might otherwise never pick up a book.

I love Gavin.
