I finished my first 5K this morning! |
|
After an injury layoff that seemed to last forever (see my post below), and a lot of doubts whether or not I could do it...I did it this morning. I ran in the Festival 500 5K in Indianapolis and posted a time of 43:34...about two minutes quicker than I thought when I crossed the finish line. I knew when I passed the 1-mile mark and saw my time of 15:00 that I knew things were going to be okay. The last .50 was a true bitch, however, because I've lost some of my stamina, but there was no way I was going to walk that after coming so far.
It's true what they say...when you're in the corral before the start, there's a special feel in the air and the adrenaline rush makes you feel like you can do anything.
I did it. I finished.

I'm very proud and happy for you. That's quite an accomplishment. How are your shins feeling afterward?

2. Actually, not too bad. |

I took some Motrin and put a pain-killing cream (forget the name of it, but it is like Absorbine Jr) on my ankle and shin, then wrapped it in a shin brace I got at the running store last week. I followed that with a compression sock, and the leg felt pretty good throughout the race. I could tell, though, that overall both legs have lost some stamina, seeing how I was plodding toward the end. But that is fixable, now that I know I can run given I follow the above rigamarole.
When I got home, I immediately put ice on it and right now it's not bothering me too much. I plan to take tomorrow totally off and try to go back out for a light run/walk (probably more walk) on Monday.
Thanks for asking! :hi:
