Bloggers Against Torture

Are you against torture? Do you blog? Then join me in promoting June as Torture Awareness Month.

It's easy to do. Click here to sign up and obtain the code for the blogroll. If you host your blog on wordpress.com and cannot use the script, contact me so I can send you directions on how to post the .gif image and link the url in your blog.

I'm sure you've got some questions…I'll answer them.

Why should I get involved?

There is growing evidence that the United States is systematically using torture and inhuman treatment in their War on Terror. During the past couple of years, organizations like Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch have gathered evidence showing that the United States has not treated its prisoners in accordance with the Geneva Convention. This mistreatment must stop, and we have to bring awareness to this problem to everyone we come in contact with.

How will my little blog spread the word?

Once upon a time, I joined an alliance of three hundred bloggers called The Big Brass Alliance. We brought awareness of The Downing Street Memos to the mainstream media, the general public, and members of Congress by contacting select media outlets, senators and congresspersons on a daily basis until they took action. The alliance grew to over a thousand members, and once Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) became involved the rest is history.

A band of bloggers made history once. With your help, we can do it again.

How can I help?

That's the easy part. Click here to join the Bloggers Against Torture alliance, write or post articles on torture on your blog, and spread the word. Check out the Torture Awareness Month web site for information and the latest news and updates on this important subject.

1. Why does it want to know if I drink Coke or Pepsi?
Edited on Mon May-22-06 02:35 AM by Kire
Why does it ask for my home address to send me a prize?

Can't I just get the code?

I'm tempted to alert the mods because this is spam.

3. Well, apparently I'm on the blogroll
but it did send me to a survey that asked me if I drink Coke or Pepsi, and then asked me what kind of $100 prize I wanted, then asked me for my email and home address.

5. I saw an ad with a "continue" bypass option...
...which took me back to the same blogroll signup page...
which then took me to the Coke v Pepsi survey.

I hope they straighten this thing out.
