Anybody here ever read, "A Death In Canaan"?

THis is a case that is like Fatal Vision-who, in the end, killed Peter Reilly's mother?

This is a very interesting case from the mid-70s that took place in Conneticutt. Peter Reilly's mother was brutally murdered, and the cops got Peter to "confess." The case became a cause celebre over false confessions.

The murder is still unsolved.

PS-This was one of the first TC cases that I ever read.

1. Saw a TV program on this one a few years ago
It was on Investigative Reports or American Justice, I think. It has been a while, but I think my impression was that the kid did not kill his mother and made a false confession under tremendous pressure. What was your impression?

3. Yes
I am troubled by the questioning of a minor.

I think I saw that show about the case-there was some talk that two brothers (or cousins?) were the main culprits, but then thier DNA or fingerprints excluded them.

The whole case is screwy. Barbara (the victim) was not exactly loved, but she was not really hated, either. She had no money, so that did not seem to be a motive, either.

2. I think I saw the made for TV movie years ago
I seem to recall the name of the book you mention, but I don't think I have ever read it. I am going to check out on the web about this case and see if there is anything about it out there.

5. This was on A&E's American Justice today at noon
May be on again tonight? I only saw part of it, but the police definitely coerced the statement (doesn't mean he was innocent, but the confession was completely tainted by their actions).
