What about cash?
I logged onto my account on Vanguard and it gave me a pie chart of what is recommended for my situation - getting close to retirement - compared to my current investment.

Its model had 55% stocks and 45% bonds while I am at 55% stocks, 35% bonds and 15% money market fund (round numbers). I'd like to have some cash available and wonder why Vanguard ignores it.

Should I keep some in cash?

1. Their model may consider the money market fund as cash since those funds are typically very liquid.
As far as your entire portfolio is concerned, if you have a savings account or CD's held elsewhere, you may already have it covered.

2. Thanks. No, no CD. All our IRAs and 401Ks have
cash in them - we moved fast two years ago before the market crashed...

Forgot to mention that it is an IRA account and, no, it did not consider cash or money market fund, only stocks and bonds.

I think that I will keep the money market fund...
