-- Speaking to 6,000 at the Dodge Arena, Mrs. Clinton focused on her list of what she wants to accomplish – affordable health care, college education, pre-kindergarten instruction, a workable border solution – and how she is the candidate who knows the needs of South Texas.

Pointing to a sign, she said: "Tested, proven, effective. That's what we need in our next president."

Her speech was upbeat and held few of the negative punches predicted by the Obama campaign.

David Plouffe, the Obama campaign manager, told reporters Wednesday morning: "We expect she'll be very aggressive in the debate. I don't think it's too long before you see negative advertising, mail and radio in the state of Texas from her."
