I am trying to find my voice

I Am Trying To Find My Voice
Ramon Piñero 4/16/2004

I am
trying
to
find
my voice;
but all
this noise
drowns
my words
my voice
my lifeline.

I am
trying
to
find
the anger
of my
youth
the fire
that
burned
inside
me
when my
friends and
neighbors
lost their
sons
in a war
in a
faraway
land
for an
unknown
cause.

I am
looking for
the
outrage
of my
youth;
the outrage
that brought
the multitudes
into the
streets
and changed
the course
of a
generation.

I am
looking
for
my voice
at a time
when it is
best to
shut up;
when it is
best to
look the
other way;
when it is
best to
drown
in TV
unreality
shows
when it
is best
to argue
about
Paula Abdul
and who
got
“fired”.

I am
trying to
to find
that piece
of me
that became
enraged
when
“poverty
pimps”
took the
money
and the
children
still
went
without;
without hope
without dreams
without light
without souls.

I am
looking for
the
fire
that was
my
generation.
the generation of
free speech
no war
and yes
the generation
of weed.

I am
looking
at
the
perversion
that we
have
become.

I am
looking at
our
Hummers
our poseesions
that seem
to define
what we
have become
Instead of
being
who we
are.

I am
looking
for my
voice
lost
among
all the
tears
and cries
of hunger
amid
howls of
pain
that
we
allow
be done
in our
names.

I am
looking
for that
distant
song that
belongs to
me;
those
far-off
giggles
of
our
children
playing
tag
and
hide-n-go
seek
that sleepy
little
voice
that say’s
“I love you
Daddy
Won’t you
sing me
a song”

I am
trying
to find
my voice

I am
trying to
find my
soul.

2. That was very nice
I like how you sort of played your words to better set up your next verse. It was very profound
