Anyone see last week's Entertainment Weekly? Disturbing article
Edited on Fri Aug-12-05 03:24 PM by Love Bug
Last week's Entertainment Weekly (the one with Bill Murray on the cover) had a disturbing article about how violence against women is going to be more prevalent in this Fall's tv shows. Apparently since we've all gone prudish since Janet flashed her ta-ta, writers on the most popular cop shows (CSI, Law and Order, etc., etc.) have decided to play up gruesome violence against women victims to titillate us.

The author of the piece interviewed several of the writers of these shows (all men, of course) and their attitudes were as you might expect -- "What's the big deal? You're trying to make something out of nothing."

I'm really disgusted by this because these shows are very popular and Hollywood is once again depending on graphic violence against women for entertainment.

1. I did see that article.
I thought that was an extremely disturbing idea that there is more violence in the shows because they felt they had to cut back on the sex, but they're probably right. "Oh, we can't show women in a sexual way? Then the only other way to show them is to have them being abused in some way." I personally don't watch CSI and some of those shows for exactly that reason - the violence against women.

It was a very disturbing article.

2. It's this kind of
cr*p that just pisses me off.

Janet's boob is worth a million "families for values" emails, but I'll bet nary a one of them will complain about women being raped, mugged, beaten up, stabbed, etc on the new shows. No, that & a million ED commercials are just honky dory, but Janet's boob creates a firestorm.

I wonder how violence against women is going to increase, though. It seems to me the cop shows are already pretty full of it.
