Anyone have experience with liquidating assets? |
|
I'm in a big financial screw up and I need to sell some of my things for cash. Basically, I've got a lawn mower, snow blower and some diamonds that I'd like to sell. I have no clue how to go about selling this stuff w/o getting screwn. If you have any experience with selling on Craigslist or selling jewelry (I know I'll get squat for it but I'd like to get the most squat possible) can you please offer some suggestions. I'm in a pickle and scared out of my wits.

2. Craig's list is the best place to sell locally |
|
I was wondering about Ebay for the diamonds, but you'd need to get them appraised to find out what your floor (50% of the appraisal) will be. They'll also give you color and clarity numbers as well as descriptions of any flaws. You can send a copy of the appraisal to whoever buys them.
The place you're likely to get robbed on those diamonds is a jeweler's. Second worst ripoff is a pawn shop.
My mother's diamond, with my grandmother's and great grandmother's diamonds set into it, was appraised at $2400. The jeweler offered me $300 for it.
Needless to say, I passed.

3. I sold many things on ebay for decent prices - unfortunately, none of the things you have |
|
so I don't have personal experiences in those categories. The lawn mower and snow blower might go through a newspaper ad too - the paper here lets you list items for free if they are a certain dollar amount or lower. As for the diamonds, I'd definitely have them appraised before you do anything - call around, you can probably find someone reputable who would appraise them at no charge.
Good luck!!

4. I have sold with Craig's list |

one bit of advice - post daily so it will stay close to the top
And try to be patient - there will be a buyer, it might take a few days.
