11. In all fairness
the VT. dots are the dark green ones(1)and the small size of the state exaggerates the appearance. Still depressing though.

13. Yeah, probably. Look at Texas.
Definitely red, and three reds (San Antonio, Houston, and Dallas, looks like) along with a lot of green. Look at New Orleans and Gulfport/Biloxi, and you get an idea of why there was no national gaurd to call up after Katrina. WIth that many dots for that small a population, Bush should have done cartwheels for them. I'll punch the next Republican who claims the "support the troops."

I don't know the Northeast that well. You're probably right, that's a lot of dots. I think of that as all city, but now that I look at it closer, I realize how much rural area that covers.

Edited on Sat Jul-08-06 09:34 PM by me b zola
Sorry for my faulty memory.

And yes, this is all so heartbreaking.

on edit: I did not mean to imply that there is only one DUer who volunteers and gives so much to veterans issues--there are many DUers who do so.

I work with vets and returning troops to help the recieve their benefits the Replugs don't want them to have them. We helped get a veterans lottery ticket for veterans 100% of the money goes to vets an famlies of the kids in the war zones. We helped pass a law that the VA reports to IL. Veterans Affair Committee. And we are all Democrats some where Republicans like me at one time but came into the light its nice in this light we see more clearly. I ran the State of IL Veterans For Kerry and kick butt yep I work for vets and to get all of our freedoms back that Bush took

29. Maybe you can tell me
How did the military vote in 2004? I don't remember ever hearing about it. I remember in 2000 they mostly voted for Bush and the results were published less than a week after the election.

14. I don't agree with calling the heartland Dumbfuckistan
Edited on Sat Jul-08-06 07:53 PM by Psephos
Broad brushes are the tools of bigots. I'm not calling you a bigot; I'm saying that we use bigots' tools (and sweeping generalizations) at our peril. The country is far more granular than can be described in one careless statement.

To my eyes, the dots on the map correlate rather neatly with population distribution.

In most of the red states and the blue states, single digits of percentages separate those who supported Kerry and those who supported Bush. We can't afford to alienate potential Dem voters in the next election with snobbish put-downs...especially when they aren't true. With few exceptions, the red states and the blue states are actually purple.

Here's an excellent dissection of the *actual* demographics of the electorate, by Pew Research. Even if you only skim this, you will find astonishing refutations of what passes for common knowledge around here. There is no excuse for us to be ignorant when this kind of research is easily available.

Just my $0.02 worth....

Peace.

Edit: removed a redundancy

And I live in Utah the capital of it. "Do you think Bush is a good President?" "Yes" "Why?" "Well he believes in God"

Dumbfuck...just my opinion.
