Shame on the politicians who have chosen sides in the Middle East.
Shame on the extremists on ALL sides who love "honor", war, and land, more than their own children.
Shame on all who would allow innocents to die in order to kill the "guilty".
Shame on all those who turn a blind eye to, much less justify, the atrocities being committed.
Shame on America for its apathy, for allowing the Bush regime to exist.
Shame on all who do not want Peace, for you are the ones who will bring about the downfall of humankind.
I have no sympathy for the governments and organizations that engage in this perpetual bloodshed, only the people who are killed for simply being in the way. A pox on all your houses - Hamas, Hezbollah, Zionists - for this never-ending war and constant sabotaging of peace.
Shame on all of you, we are supposed to be better than this!
PEACE NOW!

but you really came across there like a prophet crying in the wilderness. I don't like having a finger pointed at me, which is the vision I see when someone utters "shame on you."
How about "shame on us"?

The post was obnoxious and superior. Finger pointing is a useless, narcissistic and defensive exercise that helps no one.

most of us here are nearly blameless. We all do our best to educate our friends and neighbors, we all helped during the last elections by donating time and/or money. The headline was directed at all those who COULD make peace but choose violence instead, unlike most here at DU.
I do sometimes, however, feel like I am crying in the wilderness. I think most of us come here to escape that feeling of isolation and desperation, to exchange ideas and feelings with other like-minded people.

12. The brutality is profound and a clear case of overkill. |

Israel, like its patron, the US is escalating the conflict over a flimsy pretext. Are all superpowers and their overly armed client states allowed to ignore international law and wage any war of aggression that they want? As with the US in Iraq, Israel has begun a war with massive Shock and Awe destruction of infrastructure and with extreme loss of civilian life. The parallels are numbing.

|
This is a big one... and I feel we need to do more in this area. We can't be expected to help anyone else when we are ourselves being held hostage by the most dangerous terrorists currently in existence.

Lebanon are responsible for Hezbollah because they 'allow' them to exist, I think of what we have 'allowed' within our own country, and how difficult it has been in our own struggle against Bush & Co.
I am so frustrated right now!

Life is all about frustration right now. Seems we need to concentrate on ridding ourselves of our frustrations before we can offer any help to others.
Lebanon is about as responsible for Hezbollah as we are for the things our own government is doing in our name. You nailed it down well.
Love your sig line by the way. That would make a great protest sign for someone outside the White House... we need to take it to the street and make a stink and get that freak of nature out of the White House, and soon!

This beast needs to be slain. We can't just for wait for an election cycle to get rid of them. That other branch of the American government - the American people - needs to rise up.

Peace was better than the pain of dealing with the problem.
Peace was rockets in northern Israel.
Peace was rearming of Hezbollah and partial ethnic cleansing in the south of Lebanon as "justice" was imposed.
Peace was IEDs on the Israeli side of the Blue Line.
Peace was the preaching and boasting that yielded a nearly theocratic state-within a state, with a militia able to challenge and probably beat the central government's army, so that a single Muslim cleric has de facto control over their foreign policy, and authorizes the central government to negotiate for him.
Peace was not stopping anybody involved.
Peace led to war.
The response: Peace now.
The same solution, the same slogans, the same proposals as last time. The difference: The starting point has Hezbollah in greater control, *still* with nobody willing to face the problem.
Peace can be good or bad, depending on the circumstances. Last time, it was bad. People are dying, and probably more will die as a result than would have died had people not settled for peace instead of principle.
Peace that allows evil to arm, and peace that counsels submission to evil, is not peace. It's a grave.

7. Israel refuses to end occupation. Of Lebanon, of the West Bank |
|
of Gaza (it "disengaged" but did not end the occupation, and it partially withdrew from Lebanon, it did not fully withdrawal). so let's get the facts straight, and stop repeating Israeli official propaganda.

It's that large part of every man that wants to hate with God on its side."
"If only there were evil people somewhere doing evil deeds and it was only necessary to stop them, but the line dividing good and evil runs through every man's heart and who wants to cut out part of their heart?"

This sounds like a vialed "it's Clinton's fault" to me. "Peace can be good or bad, depending on the circumstances." Yea as long as you aren't effected. People that think like you make me sick. "Last time, it was bad." Let me guess, in 30 yrs we will all see what a great job Chuckle Nuts is doing now. "People are dying, and probably more will die as a result than would have died had people not settled for peace instead of principle." Gee what low expectations they had settling for peace. Sounds like you think the only way to lasting peace is endless war.

f*****-up disconnect from reality do you live that you can EVER say peace is bad?? Peace is NOT JUST the absence of conflict, but a reality of calm, and law and order amoung people who have agreed to live together harmoniously. please, do not continue to use words you demonstrate clearly that you do not understand.

24. I think the point is.... |
|
That the absense of fighting is not necessarily "peace," or does not necessarily minimize death, destruction, bloodshed in the LONG run.
In the short term, it may be the absence of fighting; but as the poster points out, if another side is amassing arsenals and power, it can sometimes be better to deal with the underlying issues ahead of time, early, including forcibly disarming them before they gain more, if necessary.

Sometimes it causes less death and destruction to stop some arsenals sooner, rather than later.

It would seem the majority of humankind just can't get enough of killing. It's just so damned dispiriting to KNOW that our own country is the largest exporter of weapons and war on the planet, but so few seem to care. Or worse, THEY LOVE IT, can't get enough of it. How can we point fingers at other nations for their violent conflicts when we're either directly or indirectly involved in most of them and as a nation we haven't made even the weakest effort to stop them? Can you even imagine how different the world would be if money for war was spent on peace?
I spotted a big-ass SUV in the parking lot this morning, one covered with all kinds of military stickers -- AF, USMC, all branches of the service it seems, plus your generic "support the troops" stuff. That was pretty run of the mill until I saw a large yellow sticker on the back bumper. Upon closer inspection I was sickened at the so-called "humor": it was a "Special Hunting Permit" for terrorists, with a "no bag limit" and "no tagging." Yes, what a laugh. What a world.
