Video: Neil Young Interview - On Bush, Album & Country - Show Biz Tonight |
|
Edited on Fri Apr-21-06 09:29 AM by kpete
VIDEO: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7utryGZ25dg“This talk about a 9/11 mentality. No one, George Bush or anyone else, owns the 9/11 mentality. It belongs to the United States of America. It belongs to everyone who was sitting there with their family, watching those buildings get hit by those jets. It belongs to George Bush and his family, it belongs to John Kerry and his family, it belongs to me and my family, my American family. I have a post 9/11 mentality. It’s just not the same as George Bush’s.”

3. I don't believe he ever supported Bush. |
|
He professed a real admiration of Reagan for awhile, though, but I believe that waned by the end of Bonzo's reign. Young is a real weirdo, politically and in general - one of those guys who isn't really tuned in, but very specific issues punch their way through and energize him to some cause or other. In the 80s it was Farm Aid, which brought him in contact with lots of farmers and country musicians, which, in turn, brought out his weird redneck side. (Not that farmers and country artists are all rednecks, but that's the aspect Young seems to have glommed on to.)

4. it was right after 911 we were all - INSANE with GRIEF |

But like all of us "in shock" right after 911, Neil Young voiced support for the Chimperor. Hey, I would have too as a public figure, but now he's revealed a truly dark side. If we can forgive Mike Wallace for supporting bush seemingly "minutes after 911" we can understand Neil Young's faux pas. :hi:

7. He did write a song called "Let's Roll" with 9/11 connections.... |
|
But I don't recall him making any specifically pro-Bush statements.
He performed in a TV fundraiser for 9/11 victims--singing John Lennon's "Imagine."

11. Yeah - Let's Roll is a pretty good song, but far from his best |
|
And it does has lines about smoking out those who had done 9/11 to us. Bryant Check it out --> http://politicalcomment.blogspot.com

6. "Rockin In the Free World".... |
|
This was inspired by the political changes going on at the time, and was highly critical of the George Bush presidential administration (the first one). Some of the lyrics mock Bush's campaign speeches: "We got 1,000 points of light, for the homeless man," "We got a kinder, gentler machine gun hand."

10. A pioneer, and true free spirit Neil Young deserve better than trashed |
|
Growing up in Winnipeg Manitoba , Young wrote about his connection to farming and the land early on. I would say Young is more intune than most, and feels deeply about the issues that middle rural America, a shunned vast land, that many cannot relate to.I wish more had his vision.

trashing him, I've been a fan since the CSN&Y days and was dismayed (to say the least) at the time
:sarcasm: This happened right before he started balding and I wondered if the "powers that be" weren't slapping some sense back into him, if they did it's good he listened
forgot a word (did)

8. I kind of loved that the dude at the end called the charge |
|
(which, essentially, that reporter had made during her interview) that Young was making this record as a purely commercial enterprise "ridiculous," which is is. You just have to look at his 80s records to see that. And the grimace on that lady's face when he said that is priceless.

13. Neil Young supports personal freedom. |
|
Politically he jumps around but, as he said in this interview, recognizing our mistakes is a part of the freedom we have. I believe he will be purging himself of some mistakes on this new album.
BTW he will be performing on Conan tonight.
