Today, we officially announce a new Occupy Columbia initiative: www.VetsAgainstVouchers.org

On November 15th, four of the Occupy Columbia veterans went to a campaign event where Mitt Romney was speaking. Days earlier, Romney had proposed vouchers to care for veterans, and we wanted to silently demonstrate opposition to that proposal. Three of the veterans were asked to leave before the speech started, and the last was escorted out during the speech, after removing her top layer to reveal a t-shirt that read “Veterans Against VA Vouchers.”

These individuals served our country and protected our freedoms, including the freedom of speech, only to find themselves shunned by the political elite because of a t-shirt. In response to this silencing, we are calling on veterans everywhere, and the occupiers who support them, to amplify these voices. Join the Vets Against VA Vouchers!
