Some DUers refuse to acknowlege that racism is the source of some of the opposition to Obama |
|
from the republicans. They think it's just because he's a democrat.
I don't trust people who think that.

1. The problem is that after you determine that it is racism |
|
what can you/we do about it other than to continue the struggle for Racial Equality.
That is what President Obama would want us to do --

2. You know they'd oppose any Democrat |
|
It makes it hard to draw the line. But for sure, their lockstep voting against everything is telling.
Then there is "youlie" Wilson. And the condescending tone of some of them in Baltimore.
IMO they love polarization and would do it regardless and would be sexists if Hillary Clinton had won - but there's an extra layer of hysteria there. Since their worldview is based on a fantasy and they are trying to hold onto that fantasy even with direct evidence a black man is smarter and more capable than they are.

4. I don't believe it's the sole source because they did the same or worse to Gore and Kerry. |
|
That's not to say it isn't a part of it, but tearing down Democrats using lies and distortion is not a new tactic employed against Obama because he's black.

5. A good look at the teabagger rallies certainly confirms racism's role in some of the nonsense. |
|
Don't get me started -- sure, there may be two or three of us for show amidst the sea of, ahem, homogeneity, but the rally signs showing Obama with bones through his nose, showing Obama eating fried chicken and watermelon, the Aunt Jemima-ish Obama Waffles that were sold at a wingnut convention, and the constant habit on the right of referring to him as 'Barry' (his former nickname now used by them as an epithet) plus the 'birther' insanity amidst other things, are not merely because Obama's a Democrat, and I certainly can't fool myself into thinking so.
Add to that, the bigoted emails wingnuts think it's okay to distribute, using for cover a new version of the GOP "I don't recall" defense -- cue wide eyes, "I didn't realize it was racist".
No, you're right, Hope -- there is far too much evidence at the ready to deny that racism does play a definite role in the absolute hysteria on the right that this man is president.

6. I even saw blatant racism from my in-laws who are elderly Dems. |
|
If Dems can be racist then there's certainly no call to deny that republicans can be racist. Racism and homophobia exist in both parties and denying it is just foolish.

7. Apparently those who want to "reach out" to teabaggers |
|
are the same ones who seem most willing to turn a blind eye to the obvious.
Yes, I've noticed too.
