I was--kinda. I mean I figured they would pick one of their nuts, but damn. I didn't realize how fundy and nutty this one is!

And, it got me to thinking: how many other fundies are out there like American Taliban sleeper cells waiting to get their marching orders?

How many other governors, lieutenant governors, state legislators, judges belong to similar fringe groups?

Anyone know?

2. Not at all.
A LOT of them are fundies, some are just more subtle. Dubya was able to speak the fundie code and thereby
escape mass detection. Too bad for our country.

4. Yeah, it surpised me
In shoring up the small GOP fundy base, McCain threw away any real chance he had at going for the independents he seemed to be aiming for until now.

5. Not at all
All the finalist, other than Lieberman (who I never really thought was anything other than a planted rumor) are conservative Christians.

7. They couldn't select Ralph Reed per se, so they selected Ralph Reed with a vagina.

it's the same tactic they use for their ideology...putting a smiley face on fascism.

8. Help me expose Norm Coleman's affairs
If you really want to stop the right-wing wing-nuts, here is a concrete way: Minnesota Senator Norm Coleman is one of George W's biggest lapdogs. He has also fought gay marriage, claiming it's because he's so interested in preserving the "sanctity of marriage." At the same time, there are many reports about Mr. Family Values' extra marital affairs, his sexual harassment of women in bars, restaurants and elsewhere, his racist comments, and his receipt of illegal "gifts" (campaign contributions in the multiple thousands of dollars at a shot). We are now working on an expose about Norm and his treatment of women. Please, if you want to help stop the madness of the republican right, contact me if you have ANY information about Coleman that might be helpful or relevant. Thank you.

21. Will you just start your own post instead of
answering in posts that have nothing to do with Coleman? Post in the MN forum...

10. It did surprise me a little
that McCain would pick such an "agent of intolerance".

But then, McCain's heart was set on Lieberman.
Palin was the consolation prize.

13. The fundy bit didn't shock me *that* much as I'd been rather predicting Fuckabee
What really shocked me to the core was the support for Pat Buchanan.

Surely there is one stealth dominionist out there with experience and no abuse of power investigation?

16. it did surprise me, despite McLame's fervent anti choice statements --
This is a career public servant (despite how we may feel about his service) who SHOULD have beaten W in 2000. And would probably have won more legitimately given the Clinton fatigue rubbing off onto Gore.

He has not much use for the Fundies other than abortion in his record, a bit too smart to fall for the Creationist thing etc.

The fact that he really wanted to go with someone more "Moderate" ala Ridge and LIEberman is telling - he really did want someone with more experience who agreed with him on Iraq and National Security.

Instead, he panicked and went for the Base instead of Independents who very well may have been lured by him, without giving him real scrutiny and who caved to the "inexperience" meme against Obama and who are latently racist, while avowing otherwise. The Base would have turned out anyway in large enough numbers to add to the Independents.

This is a personal tragedy for McCain playing out Big Time -- and he knows it, all the while trying desperately to believe otherwise.

While Rove may have snookered us once again remains to be seen -- but McCain has trashed his reputation as a "leader" on this terrible choice.

19. Kinda also...not that big of a fundy anyway
but McCain kept stipulating "must be pro-life anti-choice"

I thought his choice would be a joke...and Palin is a joke. Right wing fundies always are....which isn't to say they can't be dangerous...just that they are always caricatures

I still find it curious though...his choice. I think his choice was made for him by others....and that worries me to a degree.

McCain doesn't worry me and a Mccain/Palin ticket doesn't worry me....but evidence suggest he was herded toward Palin by some well known names in fundyland and that does make me wonder....and I can't help but think it's slightly more than just appeasement. Like maybe there's some long term thinking behind launching an unknown on the national stage for future reasons...

I know there was talk of the religious right dying out not all that long ago...something I remain skeptical of....those fuckers have been the enemy of good government for years....course, maybe it is as simple as that....Think we're dying out? Well, meet Palin...the next generations Phyllis Schlafly.
