34. Democrats in "power"...NOT!! |
|
Edited on Tue May-19-09 05:44 PM by RowdyRacer
The Democrats, though they are technically in "power", are totally ineffective, and I believe it is by design. In order to serve the corporate masters, the Dems take on the same role as the Washington Generals - the team that travels around with the Harlem Globetrotters. Their job is to LOSE, even when they have to TRY because the GOP is leaderless and incompetent. The Dem politicians still get their paycheck, all the perks, along with the corporate $$$ for rolling over after pretending to put up a fight.
Think about it and I think most of you will agree with me.(sadly)

...that it has long been known to anyone with eyes that the democrats are not on the side of the people but on the side of money and power. caving is what they do, it's their raison d'etre, along with desperately trying to look like they are not.

17. The corporatists have two kinds of pets |
|
in Congress -- dogs and cats. The Republicans are the dogs. They will do tricks on command. They will sit up and beg. They will roll over and play dead. They will wag their tails when they see their masters. They will anticipate their masters' needs. And they will die to protect their corporate masters. The Democrats are the cats. They act distant and aloof. They will not respond to demands for tricks.
But both dogs and cats will come running when they hear the can opener.
(This is not original -- I may have read it here -- and it's paraphrased, but I think it pretty much explains what's going on.)

20. AS much as I like Tom and dislike some things Obama has done.... |
|
we shouldn't ignore the pro-wrestling element at play here. Let me say that doing something just for political ends does not justify the means BUT
If there is conclusion the issue ends. If there is drama people will stay tuned. That is pro-wrestling.
IF Obama did all the things (or even some to a greater degree) this issue could go away. If he doesn't it stays alive. Both sides of DC do this, us with healthcare (times require actual movement now) and them with abortion, gun rights, "values", etc. but neither seizes the opportunity to end it or let it go away. This both distracts the masses and gives the media something to scream at each other about.
I am disappointed in Obama to a degree on this and other issues but realize that not only can he keep this alive he does have a GIANT issue for the rest of the year-Healthcare. He can't have all of DC turn on him now. Regardless of what we want to think about the public being able to affect change in DC (it can) it is often slow mostly because the money in DC likes being the money in DC and wants to continue being the money in DC so they don't want any "drastic" conclusion either.

You know how they always ask you who you'd like to ask to dinner? I would love to ask Tom Tomorrow. He really gets it right in so many ways. I admire that he's not trying to sugarcoat realities. It's not as much fun being on the side being skewered. Although the last frame is getting it's licks in at Republicans, it has a subtext that I wish Obama would GET:
It doesn't matter what you do to appeal to them, it will never be enough!
