Venezuela accused of acting like an imperial superpower

Chavez: Copying GWB since 2002!

Venezuelan government authorities behave just like those they claim to hate: the leaders of an imperial superpower. Héctor Faúndez, Professor of Public International Law and Human Rights with Central University of Venezuela (UCV) made such comparison when queried about the statements of several public officials.

They are prone to disregard an impending decision by the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACHR Court), Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, with regard to a ban on public office meted out to ex Chacao mayor Leopoldo López.

"One thing is late compliance with some of the items of a judgment issued by an international court; another thing is saying outspokenly it will be not observed in the event of not favoring them. This is done only by imperial superpowers that think they are above the law," the scholar mentioned.

The attitude of the Venezuelan government and the Supreme Tribunal of Justice (TSJ) reminds him of the stance taken by the United States when the International Court of Justice condemned it for funding armed groups opposing Nicaragua's FSLN (National Liberation Front) Sandinista Junta of National Reconstruction government (Contras).
