Did anyone notice the different attire of the rethugs recently?
A Dem friend called tonight and railed about the new 'casual' look of rethugs; unbuttoned shirts vs. suits/red ties. Are they trying to appeal to the baggers or every and anyone?

I hadn't noticed and was not near a tv most of the day, but she was angry! So now they want to try to 'relate to the little people'?

That was her take on it anyway.

Just simple oridinary working folk who roll up their sleeves and have dirt under their fingernails.

Yeah, right.

This is about marketing. About packaging. Looking like middle class when really they are not.

3. They "rolled up their sleeves" today while unveiling their "Pledge to America"
in a lumber company. :eyes: Here's the video: http://www.c-spanvideo.org/program/295625-1

4. Maybe this is what she was referring to.

I saw a similar photo earlier today on DU. It was taken at the same Contract on America event only one of the guys in the back looked like a total doofus.

I'm guessing that the red ties are out because they clash with The Boners orange perma-tan. That and I guess they're trying to be "folksy".

12. One announcer made a crack about the number of freshly ironed shirts
If the GOP leadership wants to look like the Tea Baggers, they should gain fifty pounds each and put on T shirts with stupid slogans.

14. Thanks for the photo - the impression I get is not casualness,
but awkward sloppiness. They are still wearing what are clearly dress shirt - likely expensive dress shirts - and they don't look casual. Also, though the shirts are all not white, the impression is a bland sea of white - a perfect metaphor for their vague, bland pledge.

Think of the casual/yet neat dress of Obama while campaigning. It managed to convey both neatness, while not sending a message that he was not serious. (For that matter, Kerry's khaki pants and his checked or other subtle patterned shirts were more casual than this. Senator Brown was NOT the first MA candidate to wear a barn coat - and I would bet that Kerry did not buy his just for the image it projected.)

8. no more suits? maybe not
They aren't the "suits" anymore. But they'll be filing a hoard of lawSUITS, should they gain the power again.

15. Ah, c'mon, they're just plain folk like the rest of us.
Except most of them are millionaires, they make 5 times the average American's salary and have perks to die for. (Meanwhile, they plot to take perks away from us so we'll die.)
