3. LOL, no kidding
As usual. The economy was good during the Clinton years because of Reagan and Bush. It went south during the Bush years because of Clinton. Now it's due to Obama until it gets better, then it will be Chimpy's credit. The Republicans have this one down!

17. Job Creation ALWAYS Craters When A Republican Succeeds A Democrat and ALWAYS Soars When A Democrat
Succeeds A Republican
http://bureaucountydems.blogspot.com/p/job-growth.html

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_mHSyEv8vBt4/S6Zvl-nui8I/AAAAAAAAACQ/3j0wUSj78mk/s640/Job+growth+graph.jpg?

Many Americans are aware that George W. Bush has had the worst job creation record since the government began tracking these figures in 1939. But Bush's colossal failure to manage the economy overshadows a much larger story.

The record shows two unmistakable patterns:
Every time a Republican succeeds a Democrat in the White House, the job creation rate plummets.
Every time a Democrat succeeds a Republican in the White House, the job growth rate soars. Every time! No exceptions!

Considering the steady growth in population of the United States during this time frame the job creation rate should steadily increase each month (currently it must grow by 128,000 per month to keep up with population growth). This trend only manifests itself when examining Democratic administrations:

Listed below is the average job growth increase for all terms served:

And How Has President Obama Been Doing Backfilling The Black Hole Bush Left Him?

4. The real unemployment numbers are not published
because no one knows how many people have just given up, retired early, moved in with relatives or committed suicide.

You don't think it's bad out there? Take a look at this ad.

Warehouse job, $17 an hour, and have 4 year college degree. WTF!

7. Actually those are published, but they take longer to compile

BLS publishes the Labor Force Participation Rate, generally with a two-quarter lag time, though preliminary numbers are already out for November.

9. Did you notice last week that a drop in UE to 8.6 was also bad news?
It's kind of funny.

UE goes UP ... bad news.

UE stays FLAT ... bad news.

UE goes DOWN ... also bad news.

Same when this data comes out.

13. If unemployment improves without Obama doing everything EXACTLY like some want...
...then those people are going to feel like their point of view has been somewhat invalidated. Its hard for someone to admit that their way isn't the ONLY way forward if that person happens to be an overzealous ideolog, left or right. The reflexive need to minimize any perceived improvements in the economic situation are just a reflection of that.

18. way to change the subject
in other words:

you're deliberately missing the point. which is that improvement in a single index that stops counting people after 1 year of unemployment could indicate many things. The two most obvious are: 1) jobs really are being created and filled faster than they are being lost; 2) people are actually falling into the +1 year category of unemployment and no longer being counted.

without a robust dataset that includes other indices such as participation (the proportion of working age individuals that have a full-time job...arguably a better index to gauge the status of the workforce), this single data point is pretty useless. no hope or disappointment...just a number.

if you want to get all hopey and changey about such an obscure number, go ahead. but don't pretend people are crazy or bitter just for being smart enough to realize there are alternative hypotheses.

12. That looks like a great job for a new graduate with a logistics related degree.
Edited on Thu Dec-08-11 01:25 PM by phleshdef
And that looks like what they are likely looking for as it doesn't list any experience requirements. That listing is not making your case.

And you are wrong. the BLS DOES release estimates on all of those things. The unemployment rate is just one number among many that the BLS compiles and releases. And that rate is based on a broad monthly survey of 60,000 random households.

15. So if you don’t have the Numbers to back-up a statement, you go with the FACTS!

The last time I checked, $17 per/hour trumps Unemployment any day of the week and twice in Sundays. Also, someone making $17 per/hour, can legitimately bitch about Taxation, just because.
