Should Reid start using the Nuclear Option? |
|
President Obama has had 2 Court of Appeals nominees filibustered in 6 months (Liu & Halligan), and I'm betting Richard Cordray will be filibustered today in the vote today for him to lead the new Consumer Protection Bureau...Should Reid just say Fuck you to the GOP and start using the Nuclear Option and thus put an end to these filibusters?..

As Republicans learned in 2006, a majority in the Senate is not permanent.

It should take only 51 votes to bring a bill up for a vote and 51 votes to pass it.

6. Should have been done long ago. |

The reason why the Democrats lost in 2010 was because of the fecklessness and weakness of Harry Reid ... his failure to use the 'nuclear option' so demoralized the base that it did not see the reason to vote.
So ... better late than never.
But it won't happen, because, well, he's Harry Reid.
Mark my words, however, if the Repuglicans take a majority of the U.S. Senate in 2013, they will change the filibuster rule. And they will have no qualms about it whatsoever.

Agreed with most, but I think Harry is capable of learning his lesson. Been seeing a few weak signs of it lately, and I hope it continues in a much stronger way.
