What I have heard of the Congressional hearings so far is depressing |
|
on several levels. For one thing, the hearing was about a few hundred conservative orgs. across the country that were "cleaning up the voter rolls." Obviously, they did not just all happen to spring up on their own all over the country, so there is a coordinated effort. So, that's one downer.
Is there any effort on the left to create organizations around the country to make sure no one is denied a vote who shouldn't be. And further, to make sure people always know their proper polling place and so on, so that we make sure to GOTV and not just make sure that no one is denied. So, that's another.
Being volunteer organizations and not the government, of course, they are not bound by the Constitution and are free to target minority and poor neighborhoods. And I heard things that suggest that that is exactly what they do. So, that's another downer.
Also mentioned, hundreds of grass roots groups across the country that--wait for it--participate in a single conference call every Sunday night to discuss political issues. Now, that's a lot of organization and effort and mobilization going on every week. Anything like that on the left?
By the way, they work for whomever the Republican candidate happens to be. So, there is a a growing base of permanent, informed (of the Republican side) volunteers ready to go on a dime, well beyond just, say, the hard core state or local party diehards. And it's not about waiting to see who the candidate is, and then to see who wants to volunteer to help him or her.
That is all I can post on this topic right now.

1. Their efforts are un-American and anti-democratic. |
|
They just do not want us to participate in the democratic process. Simple as that. But, once again, they claim to be God's representation in America's political process. My stomach churns.

2. "I sense a disturbance in the Force" so I am not sure what |

will be true going forward. I do know that historically for while, a majority of people in the country have been with the Democrats. Not a huge majority, but a majority. So, caging votes to the letter of the law is a way for Republicans to go. And if that doesn't work, make the law stricter, if you control the state legislature.
