Back to square one in the Senate.

If Republicans win NV, but Democrats take AZ and GA, the Senate will be in the same place it was before the election, numbers wise. That is a real possibility.

No doubt, it would be a huge disappointment for McConnell and the Republicans.

But, it could be best for the country and for the Democratic Party, if that becomes the reality.

The Democratic Party could organize for a couple of years to take back the country in 2024, when they could take back the House, Senate, and White House.

Meanwhile, there is going to be a battle between Trump and DeSantis and whomever else may want to get into the fray. It is hard to envision a united Republican Party in the next couple of years. They are presently a scattered and disorganized bunch of misfits.

Trump is scheduled to be deposed on the 14th by the Committee...

...and he is expected to make a "big announcement" the next day. It is expected that he will announce that he is running for the White House once again.

He would probably refuse to testify before the Committee. Very few would expect him to do so. He would use his "announcement" the next day to explain why he refused to testify and explain to his followers that the attacks by the Democrats and the Committee are the reasons why he must run again to clean up the corruption and the mess they have created.

Or some such rot....

Then America would turn its lonely eyes to Merrick Garland.

If Republicans win the House by a narrow margin...?

...Will Kevin McCarthy be able to gather enough votes in his caucus to become Speaker of the House?

I seriously doubt that his Party is 100% behind him. A few may see him as someone with no integrity. A few others are part of the extreme wing of their Party and will be inclined to demand something in return for their vote. It will not be an easy task for Kevin McCarthy.

He is a person of little character and no principles. America will get their first look at his leadership skills if the Republicans win the House, which they appear to be on their way to doing.

"Herding cats" will likely become a popular phrase.

Did Trump order McCarthy to come out last night and to declare victory?

It sounds like something he might do.

McCarthy did not look comfortable making his announcement.

If so, he's going to have a tough time running a majority in the House.

It might be very difficult for him to get 218 votes to be Speaker?

It's going to be fun watching the Republicans in the House for the next couple of years, if they win the House.

How long before we hear about the shenanigans going on in Arizona election?

That there were problems that caused the Republicans to lose?

If they do not win, will they take it to court again?

Will they say they were robbed?

Gleanings from last night.

Strong Governor candidates provide coattails to all those in his Party running below him/her.

JD Vance could not have won in OH if their present Governor had not been so popular and had not Trump gave him his blessing. It is a shame that a great candidate like Tim Ryan was wasted under these circumstances. If Vance had run on his own merits, he would have lost in a landslide.

DeSantis was so strong in Florida that he pulled the entire ballot with his coattails, including former Democratic seats in Palm Beach County. Surprisingly, he slaughtered the Democrat, Charlie Crist.

Conversely, Fetterman was helped by the great race by Josh Shapiro in Pennsylvania. If Shapiro had not done as well as he did, Fetterman may have lost PA. He is likely the key to the Democrats keeping control of the Senate.

Also, Herschel Walker would not have done so well if Brian Kemp had not been such a strong Governor that was on the ballot. He will not be on the ballot in the special run-off election and I would be surprised if Walker does as well on December 6th.

People tend to vote down their ballot, from the strongest candidate on the ballot. The lesson is to understand the value of the coattails of Governor candidates.

Lastly, it appears that Trump's involvement in choosing the Republican candidates and his embarrassing comments in the last few days of the campaign, influenced a lot of people to vote against division and chaos.

Trump will not go away. He is a problem that the Republican Party will have to handle. He is really not that important to Democrats as a future opponent. He is mostly a threat to the Republican Party and what they will do with his continued influence over their Party.

Politics will likely be much more fun to watch in the next couple of years.

Would a "criminal referral" by the J6 Committee have to be voted on by the full House?

I think that may be the rule?

The J6 Committee represents the voice of the Congress. The Congress is the voice of the people. That is no small voice.

If the Congress voted to approve a criminal referral, it would have to be considered by the DOJ. It would not be wise to simply ignore it.

Trump should not be able to get off so easily with the crimes he has committed. The attempted overthrow of the elected government and the theft of national security documents are not misdemeanors. They call for some action. It is not acceptable to sweep it under the rug.

The "Cat & Mouse" game of the DOJ, the Supreme Court, the J6 Committee, and the former president.

They are making their moves.

The DOJ is questioning Kash Patel under a "use" immunity process. He cannot take the Fifth and must answer the questions, under threat of perjury, and any evidence from his testimony cannot be "used" against him.

Donald Trump requested emergency action from John Roberts and the Supreme Court on the order that he turn over his tax returns. Roberts temporarily blocked the House Ways & Means Committee from getting the documents and has ordered the Committee to respond by November 10th. That will be after Election Day.

Donald Trump has more than hinted that he plans to announce another run for the presidency, perhaps on November 14th? Coincidentally, that is the day he has been subpoenaed to testify before the J6 Committee.

(Surely, if a former president cannot be prosecuted, then an active candidate for the White House is untouchable?)

Then, we hear reports that the DOJ announce that they may appoint a Special Counsel to investigate any "crimes" by Donald Trump. This would be the ultimate delay. It would require getting someone to take the position, and all the time required to get his/her staff together. There is even suggestions that they appoint a former Republican to the position.

Oh, what a tangled web we weave...
