Ford asks dealer to end free shotgun promotion after fatal shooting at California store

File under - that didn’t take long

An Alabama Ford dealership that went viral this week for a "God, Guns and Freedom" Fourth of July promotion offering a free shotgun, American flag and Bible with every vehicle purchased has ended it at the request of the automaker.

But not completely.

Chatom Ford general manager Colin Ward told The Detroit Free Press than a Ford representative contacted him on Wednesday to ask him to cancel the promotion out of respect to the victims of Tuesday’s shooting at a California Ford dealership that left three dead.

Ward said he was disappointed and that "Ford said we can fulfill our commitments to the customers that we've made up till now, but we have to cease it going forward."

Following the call, Chatom Ford took down the advertisement for the promotion from its Facebook page and replaced it with a new one proclaiming “It’s back on!” This time offering a "God and Glory" deal that includes an American flag, a Bible and a $200 gift certificate “to use wherever you want for whatever you want. It’s your right,” Ward says in the clip.

Got an explanation on the $110/$220 supplement and July 1 filing

I happen to know someone at DEPT. of Tax - a really brainiac about all tax matters.

About 300,000 to 350,000 people every year don’t file by May 1st. There is an automatic 6 month extension in Virginia I didn’t know that. No form or proof is needed as long as you’ve already paid (like out of your paycheck) 100% of your liability. They used to get 300,000 or so of these pieces of paper and it was more of a hassle (storage/record retention) than it was worth so they made it automatic.

They are trying to get people on the extension to go ahead and file. He said he’s pretty sure the General Assembly will Okay this supplement for people who don’t file by July 1.

Anyone remember the Republican clown car in 2016?

I don’t think this should be in GD Primaries because it’s not about our primaries

First of all thank everyone for the replies last night
https://www.democraticunderground.com/1287167428
Reading through them I got a good sense of how it went. I will start another tonight.

For all the media whining about how many people are running for the Democratic nomination let’s look back at the clown car that was the Republicans in 2016.

There were a total of 17 of them who ran. They had to pare it down to 10 (seriously does anyone really need to hear from Jim Gilmore?) AND they canceled one because Trump wouldn’t show up. Last night was drastically different than their auto responses.

Pro-Life?
Yep yep yep yep yep...
Pro-Gun?
Yep yep yep yep yep...
Love ‘MURKA?
Yep yep yep yep yep...

One false reply and I wouldn’t have been surprised to see a hook appear stage left and pull them away.

Enjoy what we are seeing and the fact that they are adults discussing important things in an adult way.

Man who robbed bank to get away from wife sentenced to home confinement

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2017/06/14/kansas-man-who-robbed-bank-to-escape-wife-gets-home-confinement-sentence.html

A Kansas man who robbed a bank last September and told police that he was hoping to get caught so he would get prison time to escape his wife was sentenced Tuesday to six months of home confinement after pleading guilty, the Kansas City Star reported.

Lawrence John Ripple took the guilty plea in January. He told the judge Tuesday that he had heart surgery that left him depressed when he committed the bank robbery, the paper reported.

His public defender told the court that Ripple had lived a law-abiding life and was in a stable relationship with his wife. He has four stepchildren, the report said.

Ripple handed a note to a bank teller in Kansas City demanding cash and warning he had a gun. Ripple took the money, $2,924, and went to sit in the lobby, where he told a guard he was the “guy he was looking for.”

Scientists have discovered a sea of fresh water under the ocean

https://qz.com/1650613/scientists-discover-sea-of-fresh-water-under-the-ocean/amp/

As told in the latest issue of the peer-reviewed journal Scientific Reports, scientists from Columbia University and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution spent 10 days on a research ship towing electromagnetic sensors from New Jersey to Massachusetts. By measuring the way electromagnetic waves traveled through fresh and saline water, researchers mapped out fresh-water reservoirs for the first time.

It turns out the subterranean pools stretch for at least 50 miles off the US Atlantic coast, containing vast stores of low-salinity groundwater, about twice the volume of Lake Ontario. The deposits begin about 600 ft (183 m) below the seafloor and stretch for hundreds of miles. That rivals the size of even the largest terrestrial aquifers.

“We knew there was fresh water down there in isolated places, but we did not know the extent or geometry,” said lead author Chloe Gustafson, a PhD candidate at Columbia University’s Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, according to Phys.org. “It could turn out to be an important resource in other parts of the world.”

The size and extent of the freshwater deposits suggest they are also being fed by modern-day runoff from land—and may exist elsewhere with similar topography.
