Birthright citizenship- A few Q&A's from SCOTUS to Sauer. Text from Twitter.

GORSUCH: Do you think Native Americans are birthright citizens under your test?

SAUER: Ah, I think ... so. I have to think that through.

SAUER: We're in a new world where 8 billion people are one plane ride away from having a child who's a US citizen.

JOHN ROBERTS: It's a new world. It's the same Constitution.

Coney Barrett to Sauer: "You say the purpose of the 14th amendment was to put all newly freed slaves on equal footing and so they would be citizens. But that's not textual."

SCOTUS Justice Amy Coney Barrett now appears skeptical of striking down birthright citizenship for illegals

"I can imagine it being messy in some applications."

"What if you don't know who the parents are?"

Gorsuch: “I’m not sure how much you want to rely on Wong Kim Ark,” referring to the watershed SCOTUS precedent protecting birthright citizenship.

He cuttingly refers to the Trump admin’s reliance on “Roman law sources.”

Looking predictably bad for Trump.

Barrett: If you're looking at parents and if you're looking at parents domicile, then you have to adjudicate both residents and intent to stay. What if you don't know who the parents are?

Sauer: I think there are marginal cases. That one, I think has the benefit of being addressed in 1401F

Barrett: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. But what about the constitution?

Trump's White House ballroom project halted by judge

I see that there are media posts about this but I wanted print for those averse to the 🟦 & 🟥

A federal judge on Tuesday temporarily blocked President Trump's sprawling plans to build a massive ballroom where the East Wing of the White House once stood.

Why it matters: U.S. District Judge Richard Leon said Trump is the "steward," not the "owner" of the White House, and that the project "must stop until Congress authorizes its completion."

Driving the news: Leon granted the National Trust for Historic Preservation's request for a preliminary injunction, halting the administration's fast-tracked plans.

The trust has argued that the White House needs congressional approval for the extensive renovations and said in a filing earlier this month that "the President is a temporary tenant of the White House—its steward, not its landlord," a notion that Leon echoed in his 35-page opinion.

The patient in Room 373 refuses to leave. Tallahassee woman discharged Oct. 6th has finally left.

I wanted to give the paper that broke this story it’s due.

TMH withdraws lawsuit against former patient who stayed after discharge

Court records show the hospital dropped the lawsuit March 16 — a day after the Tallahassee Democrat broke the viral story. TMH filed a "notice of voluntary dismissal with prejudice," meaning the case is permanently closed, and the hospital cannot refile the same claim against the woman again.

All parties were supposed to virtually meet March 30 for a motion hearing that was promptly canceled after TMH dropped the suit.

When the lawsuit was originally filed, the hospital was asking the court to order the woman to leave the premises and authorize the Leon County Sheriff's Office to help in removing her.

News of TMH's move to sue the woman came at the same time that the city voted to transfer the hospital to the Florida State University. The hospital and university are still negotiating an agreement to create an academic medical center in Tallahassee, but commissioners' approval of the transfer brought the health care enterprise one step closer to reality.

ORLANDO, Fla. — The patient in Room 373 refuses to leave.

According to the lawsuit, the woman was admitted to the hospital for medical treatment and a formal discharge order was issued Oct. 6 after it was determined that she no longer needed acute care services. The hospital has repeatedly made efforts to coordinate her departure with family members and offered transportation to obtain necessary identification, the lawsuit said.

Rachel Givens, an attorney for the hospital, said Wednesday that the hospital had no comment. Hospital spokeswoman Macy Layton said Wednesday that the hospital couldn’t discuss active legal matters, in response to emailed questions, including about what type of identification the patient needed. The lawsuit doesn’t say what the patient was treated for, what her hospital bill was or how she was able to stay at the hospital for more than five months despite being discharged.

🇺🇸 US flag optical illusion

Stare at the white dot for 30 seconds (count in your head) trying not to blink. Blinking once or twice should be okay. Then stare at a blank white wall. You should see the traditional red, white, and blue US flag - sometimes floating or in relief.

I finally got my car keys fixed.

From 3 weeks ago
I changed the battery in my car key fob now it won't start with that key

https://www.democraticunderground.com/10182291869

I avoided going to a dealership.
I had an appointment with a guy 2+ weeks ago to come to my house. He said he could fix it. He probably couldn’t because it does need to be computer synced up. He was going to charge me $160. I called it off when he was 45 minutes late.

I called the locksmith operation that installed the locks when we bought our house they said sure just come bye. 30 minutes. The young lady at the counter was great. I think she ya know had a little “thing” for me but hell, how can she resist? 😉 Even on the day I turn 59.

So they cut a new cut, synced it to the car, and a new case for the spare (which I’ve been using for 3 weeks). It’s case had cracked. No amount of Lock Tite and tape stopped it from being loose and wobbly. Oh and I got the original key (no casing) that still unlocks the doors. She said I could zip tie it somewhere under the car in case of a lock out.

$171.58. Much less than I expected.

White House unveils 'OnlyFarms' website, welcomes farmers with golden tractor on South Lawn

NY Post.

The Trump White House showed farmers some love Friday with a suggestive new website highlighting its agricultural policy, along with a massive golden tractor on the South Lawn.

The administration unveiled “OnlyFarms” — yes, the name is a deliberate play on the adult website OnlyFans — which is housed on the official WhiteHouse.gov website, but can only be found by searching “OnlyFarms.gov.”

While less sexy than its more popular counterpart, OnlyFarms includes a searchable map where users can click on their state to see the average amount they’ve saved due to Trump’s farming agenda. 👀🙄

The nation’s agricultural sector is struggling with high fuel and fertilizer costs as a result of President Trump’s global tariff scheme and the war against Iran.
