Ooo ooo oooh GSA!!!...umm anyone remember Custer Battles (and the other Iraqi contractors rip offs?)

The GSA convention in Vegas undoubtedly heinous but it was for $800,000. Yes we can go down the list of Mindreaders and yearbooks but the bottom line is $800K.

In May 2003, Custer Battles established a presence in Baghdad, Iraq. In June 2003, Custer Battles was competitively awarded a contract to secure the Baghdad International Airport. The 12-month contract with the Coalition Provisional Authority was worth $16.8 million. The company continued to expand its business in Iraq, and became a minor subcontractor operating in the country.

The company continued to expand its operations in Iraq through 2003 and 2004. Their clients included the Coalition Provisional Authority, Bearing Point, Washington Group International, Parsons, Halliburton and the U.S. Army. In early 2004, the Department of Defense initiated an investigation into one of Custer Battles' contracts with the CPA, resulting in the company being suspended from future contract considerations by the Department of the Air Force. In early 2005 Custer Battles ceased operations in Iraq.

Baghdad Airport case

Another trial, with the same set of whistleblowers, concerned a separate $16.8 million contract awarded to Custer Battles to provide security at Baghdad International Airport. As this contract was paid for by seized Iraqi funds, Judge Ellis ruled that the entire contract was susceptible to the False Claims Act, and not just part of it in the previous case. The basic allegations were that Custer Battles had failed to provide adequate security staffing under its Firm-Fixed Price contract of $16.8 million. In January 2007, Judge Ellis granted Custer Battles' motion for summary judgment, finding that there was no evidence of the submission of false claims in this case. In April 2009, the 4th Circuit appeals court affirmed summary judgment for Custer Battles on the Baghdad airport contract.

Woman Uses Craigslist to Find Guy Who Knocked Her Up at Motorhead Concert

Hey, did you have sex in the bathroom of a Motorhead/Megadeth concert in Chicago? Do you have a red mohawk and black pentagram gauges? Congrats, you're a father.

A pregnant woman took to Craigslist to find the identity of her babydaddy after a brief encounter. Alas, the post has been removed — though perhaps that means she found the guy?

If it's any consolation to the dad-to-be, the woman only has positive things to say about the experience.

--WARNING GRAPHIC LANGUAGE FROM THE ACTUAL CRAIGSLIST POST--

But with raw dogging comes consequences: in this case, a little bundle of joy you may or may not be interested in raising. The Craigslist poster is actually pretty mellow about it. "Contact me if you want to be part of your child's life," she writes.

Bruins goalie Tim Thomas (refused invitation to the White House) greeted by Obama masks - Hilarious!

Bruins goalie Tim Thomas passed on meeting with Barack Obama last year. He couldn't miss the president's face last night.

Thomas protested when his Stanley Cup winning teammates went to the White House saying the Federal goverment had threatened the rights and liberties of its citizens.

So Cap fans reminded him of his "free citizen" rights by peppering the Verizon Center with posters and masks with the president's face on them.

"What did Wayne Gretzky say? You miss 100 percent of the shots you don't take. This was too much of an opportunity to pass up," Mike Holden of Rockville, Md., told Stephen Whyno of the Washington Post. "We had Timmy coming to town, and he wants this issue to go away, and we figured we'd put it right in his face."

H.U.D. and the Republicans..... they not only don't like it but Reagan paid off donors with it

The HUD rigging scandal consisted of Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Samuel Pierce and his associates rigging low income housing bids to favor Republican contributors to Reagan's campaign as well as rewarding Republican lobbyists such as James G. Watt a former Secretary of the Interior.[11] Sixteen convictions were eventually handed down,[12] including the following:

James Watt 1.James Watt, Reagan's Secretary of the Interior was indicted on 24 felony counts and pleaded guilty to a single misdemeanor. He was sentenced to five years probation, and ordered to pay a $5000 fine.[13]
2.Phillip D. Winn - Assistant HUD Secretary. Pleaded guilty to one count of scheming to give illegal gratuities.;[14] pardoned by President Bill Clinton, Nov., 2000[15]
3.Thomas Demery - Assistant HUD Secretary - pleaded guilty to steering HUD subsidies to politically connected donors. Found guilty of bribery and obstruction of justice[14]
4.Deborah Gore Dean - executive assistant to Secretary Pierce - indicted on thirteen counts, three counts of conspiracy, one count of accepting an illegal gratuity, four counts of perjury, and five counts of concealing articles. She was convicted on twelve. She appealed and prevailed on several counts but the convictions for conspiracy remained.[14]
5.Joseph A. Strauss, (R) Special Assistant to the Secretary of HUD, convicted for accepting payments to favor Puerto Rican land developers in receiving HUD funding.[16]
6.Silvio D. DeBartolomeis convicted of perjury and bribery.[14]
7.Catalina Vasquez Villalpando, the Treasurer of the United States from 1989 to 1993[17]

Pierce, the Secretary, though the "central person" in the scandal, was not charged because he made "full and public written acceptance of responsibility."[17]

Retired Federal Judge Arlin M. Adams served as independent counsel in first five years of the prosecution, through 1995,[14] and Larry Thompson completed the work 1995-98.[17]

Are You Sick Of ‘Highly Paid’ Teachers? (HUMOR)

Teachers’ hefty salaries are driving up taxes, and they only work 9 or10 months a year! It’s time we put things in perspective and pay them for what they do – babysit!

That’s right. Let’s give them $3.00 an hour and only the hours they worked; not any of that silly planning time, or any time they spend before or after school. That would be $19.50 a day (7:45 to 3:00 PM with 45 min. off for lunch and plan– that equals 6 1/2 hours).

Each parent should pay $19.50 a day for these teachers to baby-sit their children. Now how many students do they teach in a day…maybe 30? So that’s $19.50 x 30 = $585.00 a day.

LET’S SEE….

That’s $585 X 180= $105,300 per year. (Hold on! My calculator needs new batteries).

What about those special education teachers and the ones with Master’s degrees? Well, we could pay them minimum wage ($7.75), and just to be fair, round it off to $8.00 an hour. That would be $8 X 6 1/2 hours X 30 children X 180 days = $280,800 per year.

Wait a minute — there’s something wrong here! There sure is!

The average teacher’s salary (nation wide) is $50,000. $50,000/180 days = $277.77/per day/30 students=$9.25/6.5 hours = $1.42 per hour per student–a very inexpensive baby-sitter and they even EDUCATE your kids!) WHAT A DEAL!!!!
