What I Learned Inside the Lonely, Sad World of QAnon Facebook Groups

Good article from Vice. Warning - language.

An avid connoisseur of internet morons, the moment I learned about QAnon I was immediately curious, and began going about joining the private Facebook groups where Q followers regularly congregate. What I found was a frothing cauldron of insanity, where people asserted that the Santa at Trump rallies was the not-actually-dead JFK Jr, biding his time until he could come back and arrest Michelle Obama, and where no admission of belief was too embarrassing. It got much, much worse around the holidays.

If I’m being completely honest, I yelled out loud at the bologna/doritos Thanksgiving dinner sandwich. Nobody was home and I still yelled. Normally I would find these things too sad to be funny, but Q followers (almost all self-described deplorables) blur the line between being tragic and hilariously gullible. And these posts, far from being the exception to the rule, are actually the norm in the Q-niverse.

As you probably noticed from the examples I have provided, the Q crew is made up of a very specific archetype of internet denizen: elderly right-wingers who have gone too far down the online rabbit hole. Diving into any given thread you’d be lucky to find someone who’s age drops below 55—but you will encounter one of the most unnerving melanges of psychotic ramblings and hateful screeds available anywhere. Calls for sanity are met with accusations of “controlled opposition,” and the only theories that are criticized are ones that question if the group has gone too far. But more importantly, almost every single member of Q’s following seems to have one glaring and unifying trait: They are deeply, heartbreakingly lonely.

Given the obviously bullshit premise of the entire thing, it seems likely that the Q movement will fall apart at some point in the future. A more open-ended question is what happens to the army of olds that it has amassed over the year, and what their lives will look like in a post-Q world. These people seem genuinely sad—quietly aware that the world has mostly passed them by, and desperate to define themselves as something more than simply a cog in society’s system. They see themselves as brave truth-tellers, warriors for unnamed children that Hillary Clinton is currently eating sous-vide, and from this they gain purpose and self-worth. When it becomes clear, as it invariably will, that they have been had, I wonder whether they will be able to comprehend this fact, or if they will be able to find their way back to the real world.

Trump preparing two State of the Union speeches for different audiences: Sources

President Donald Trump is preparing for two different State of the Union speeches – one a more traditional address delivered to Congress in the House chamber or some other location in D.C., the other prepared for a political rally at a location outside of Washington, D.C. that has yet to be determined, according to multiple sources familiar with the planning.

Sources told ABC News that the president was previously planning two separate versions of the State of the Union – one version if the government was still shut down and another if the government was open

However, now the planning has evolved, assuming the government shutdown could drag on past next Tuesday – the expected delivery date of the address. If the president decides to deliver a speech in rally form, it would mark the first rally style event the president has attended since the partial shutdown began.

Echol Cole and Robert Walker

Sanitation workers commemorate strike that was followed by Martin Luther King’s assassination
By Andy Meek
February 1, 2018
MEMPHIS — Rain began to fall on a procession of sanitation workers Thursday afternoon as they commemorated the strike that Martin Luther King Jr. was supporting when he was assassinated here 50 years ago.

The weather was much the same on Feb. 1, 1968, which led two sanitation workers to seek shelter in the back of their garbage truck, where they were crushed to death — sparking a two-month strike for better worker safety.

Singing "We Shall Overcome," the group walked to the spot where Echol Cole and Robert Walker were killed, becoming martyrs whose deaths touched off a strike involving 1,300 black workers.

British hitman linked to second murder by his Garmin running watch

This Runner Is a Hitman. His GPS Watch Tied Him to a Mob Boss Murder
The health-conscious assassin was picked up for another murder, then investigators found his Garmin

https://www.runnersworld.com/news/a25924256/mark-fellows-runner-hitman-murder/

A British runner, cyclist, and mob hitman has been convicted for the murders of two rival gangsters, in part, because of his GPS watch. Mark “Iceman” Fellows, 39, was found guilty by a jury at Liverpool Crown Court of killing organized crime leader Paul “Mr. Big” Massey and his associate John Kinsella, 55 and 53 at the time of their deaths. Massey and Kinsella were also career criminals, part of a gang scene near Manchester, England, with a reputation known across Europe, according to the Manchester Evening News.

Though police already suspected Fellows in Kinsella’s death, it was his Garmin Forerunner that linked him to Massey’s unsolved 2015 murder. While detectives were investigating Fellows, they came across a photo of the suspect wearing his Garmin Forerunner during 2015’s Great Manchester 10K (he ran 47:17, pictured above) two months before the murder of Massey that July. Detectives then located the device at Fellows’s home and checked its GPS data for files that could link him to Massey.

Professor Last said the wearer set out initially traveling at around 12 mph, which suggested they were on a bike. When they reached the field, the speed dropped to about 3 mph, consistent with walking, before they stopped for about 8 minutes. According to the Liverpool Echo, this is the alleged escape route that Fellows ran or perhaps rode his bike on two months later, after gunning down Massey in his own driveway.

Then three years later came the death of John Kinsella, along with surveillance video showing Fellows making a similar reconnaissance loop in his car. On May 5, 2018, he approached Kinsella on his bike, and shot him twice in the back, then twice more while Kinsella was on the ground, before pedaling away. As seriously as Fellows seemed to take his preparation, he did not appear to consider witnesses would notice a cyclist wearing both commando gear and a hi-vis safety vest while toting a gun (they did, and they told the police).

*BUZZFEED* we had a watercooler moment. Timing people.

All the consternation about whether the Buzzfeed story is 110% accurate misses the point.

I'll get straight to my point - timing is everything and this got full coverage all day long.
All day. Friday....am... before a 3 day weekend.

People tend to have the same check ins 10 am - lunch - 3 pm.
It's a blowoff Friday for many. THIS cemented in people's minds. No water needed.

The rightwing started really early in the 80's with blastfaxes - Talking points for the watercoler crowd. GET THE STORY OUT EARLY - SHAPE THE DEBATE (narrative). Roger Ailes knew this and championed it too.

A google search shows me that the Mueller comment shows that the deluding this will be lost in time. Oh it will be repeated- MSM needs two horses.
