Glad you're here. Equally glad that, indeed, imaginary American White-topia IS gone. At least from the rosy scenarios that keep dancing through their memories. That world really never existed, except on "Father Knows Best," "The Donna Reed Show," "Ozzie and Harriet," and "Leave It to Beaver." It was on TV. And the only blacks they needed to bother with were on "Amos and Andy" and answered to the name of Rochester on "The Jack Benny Program." Works of fiction. Comfortable as a grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup on a cold Saturday afternoon in mid-autumn, or the Swanson's TV Dinner that your mom served you while you were watching those above-mentioned early-evening shows before you were tucked into bed.
It's a long, long ago and far, far away fiction. It never existed. And we couldn't go back to it even if it had existed. Fortunately, most of us live in the reality-based world, and want to move FORWARD, instead. And we made that clear - crystal clear to everyone except republi-CONs, that is - earlier this month.
These are WUNNNNNderful stories! Very uplifting! I think we all need it at the moment.
We've been through a year that's been rather battering in many ways. I'm still exhausted from the campaign, and I'm grateful for the results, and a lot more. This is going to be a quiet, contemplative, and reaffirming holiday week for my family and me. Daughter's back home from her life in the Pacific Northwest. I need to get off the merry-go-round for awhile. Anecdotes like the ones in this thread are SO INCREDIBLY sustaining, healing, faith-restoring, and emotionally nourishing.
As they said in that old commercial - "Thanks! I needed that!"

How about you give your fellow Americans credit for electing the better man and give him a chance. That used to be S.O.P. back in the days you all claim to want to go back to. "Alright, we would say... we lost and now we have to give this other guy a chance and back him up."
Our side has done that every time. Even through Bush until he proved our worst fears. But your side stooped to impeaching Clinton and obstructing Obama like it's never been done in our history. You talk about seceding from the fucking country because the rich guy who was going to give himself a tax cut and raise your taxes to pay for it didn't get elected. WTF is that?

So true! From what I've gathered by listening to and reading lots of their assessments,
they aren't learning ANYTHING from this election. They're overwhelmingly of the opinion that they didn't message clearly enough or well enough or simply enough or blah-blah-blah. They just don't get it. Probably because they innately don't want to. If they really wanted to learn and benefit, they'd realize that they simply have to change their ideas. paul ryan is, as usual, self-deluded when he states that the bottles of snake oil they were selling to the electorate were popular ideas. They're NOT. If they were, we'd now be calling him Vice President-Elect paul ryan. The denial just keeps on keepin' on.
It's not HOW they messaged that sucked. It's WHAT they messaged that sucked. And WHAT they messaged continues to suck to this very moment!
Yes. ABSOLUTELY. We must ALWAYS stay vigilant!
And keep track of them and what they're up to.
Yes, they will come at us in other ways. In any way they can scheme up. And we ALWAYS have to be ready. Remember what Mad-Eye Moody told Harry Potter: "CONSTANT VIGILANCE!!!!!" Because we are surrounded by Dark-Siders and Death Eaters. Only - these are not some work of fiction. They're VERY real.
What I always suggest, and do myself, is call both MY congressman, and somebody else's.
Could be anybody else. Could be in my state or outside of California. Could be in my party or the opposition. Might be somebody involved in an issue I'm calling about, or otherwise care deeply about. That would be my recommendation. And one or both of your Senators. I make about four calls at any one time.
It's valuable to call Dems to remind them that we expect nothing less than Backbones-R-Us from them and that we DID DAMN WELL get a mandate! Did the bad guys ADD House seats? The answer is NO!
It's valuable to call republi-CONS because, deep down, they know how to count votes and they too saw what happened earlier this month, and that they LOST seats in the House and they LOST seats in the Senate and they LOST their chance at the White House, and the demographics are changing around them and they BETTER pay attention. The better to destabilize the enemy. They're weak and knocked off their game at the moment, and the wind's been knocked out of 'em, too. NOW is the time to exploit that weakness. And if they're teabaggers, they could well stand a reminder that they just lost two of their proudest and most obnoxious leading lights, the two highest-profile attention-hogging teabaggers of them all: 1) that asshole loudmouth bullying reckless swaggering deadbeat dad joe walsh in Illinois, AND 2) that pompous asshole idiot who says he has a higher secret clearance than the President goes, allen west in Florida. GONE. Good Riddance. Seeya. Sayonara Suckers. You may get some snot-nose staffer who imagines himself or herself the next kkkarl rove, and he or she may want to argue with you a little. Be polite, but stand FIRM. Concede NOTHING. And again, remember, the facts are on YOUR side. As is the mandate.
These schmucks need to know, and be shown, and be reminded of WHO'S BOSS. Whether they like it or not. ELECTIONS HAVE CONSEQUENCES.

Ordinarily I'd hope that west would do the gracious thing and concede and move on with his life. But I know better. Seriously doubt he'll go away quietly, or even go away noisily - just so he GOES AWAY!!! But I bet we won't have heard the last of him. My husband mentioned something about whether he'd be a graceful loser, but then we realized - hell, the TOP of the ticket hasn't been a good sport about it, so why should the pawns on his chessboard behave any differently?
Glad you're here! Let's do EVERYTHING we can to keep assholes like this guy OUT of public office! In perpetuity!!!!
