Well, our side HAS TO start thinking outside the box. Get creative with our own activism.

How about headphones as standard equipment for every woman who has to approach these clinics and women's health establishments? How about some sort of way to encapsulate prospective patients and their guards as they attempt to enter?
How about figuring out other options for entrances to these places?
How about finding some Muslim organization that has a "religious objection" to something and then helping that case along til it makes its own way to the Supreme Court? Hey! Religious here!
How about working on it in DIFFERENT ways:
EVERY anti-choice measure that comes up, whether it's in the House of Reps, or your local city council or state house, has, irrevocably attached, a partner provision that would equally govern and regulate the male genitalia? (That "taste of their own medicine" thing.)
EVERY anti-choice measure that comes up in the insurance realm - Viagra and Cialis and whatever-the-hell else Big Pharma or Madison Avenue chooses to name it - is subject to the SAME constraints and regulations as contraception does.
How about let's beef up the reversal of Citizens United and ANY OTHER restriction that is based on corporate "personhood"?

We have to start thinking really creatively and ruthlessly. And then we have to act on it. On this pro-choice issue, we actually have NO choice at all. We HAVE TO ACT. Unless, of course, you're okay with your boss deciding what you can do with your body. Heck, many state governments have already appropriated for themselves that decision-making right. Why not the corporations too? THEY own you now, too, don't they, ladies?

AGAIN the Rude Pundit speaks for me!

It's rapidly getting to the point where I'm starting to feel as though he's the only one who does, anymore.

And protect the Senate.

Think Roe v Wade is still "settled law"? Well, YOU may agree that it is. But the avalanche of obstructors and objectors who disagree and want to take that right away from us women - will NEVER agree or concede or go away or give up. Which means WE CAN'T EITHER!!!!!!

And it does no good to assume that just because we have a "D" in the White House, that'll be enough. What if that "D" is outnumbered by "Rs" in BOTH House and Senate? When they tried impeachment against President Clinton, they had an "R" House of Reps. They failed in the Senate because there was a "D" Senate to stop it and prevent his conviction on those articles of impeachment. But what if it had been different? What if he'd been up against an "R" Senate, so deeply politicized that they would jump at the chance at voter nullification and getting rid of him - even if it meant we'd have a President Gore.

We can't ONLY have a Democrat in the Oval Office and assume we're safe. That "D" needs lots of backup across town on Capitol Hill too.

EVERYBODY, PLEASE!!! REMEMBER!!!! The bad guys are numerous and relentless. They do NOT roll over and go back to sleep, assuming they've "got this." They don't give up. They just never do. So we can't afford to. EVER.
'
GET OUT AND VOTE, PEOPLE!!!! And make damn sure your friends and family - and all those "meh, they're all alike, no difference, blah-blah-blah" assholes do likewise!

Gotta keep one thing in mind: you are in a blue state NOW. At the moment.

So am I (California).

And we can't afford to get complacent about that. We can't afford to assume that it'll always be that way. Not with the kinds of barbarians at the gate that we face - day in and day out. They will never rest. So therefore, neither can we. We can NEVER let down our guard and simply assume our rights are protected and safe, just because we're a blue state. Hell, we Californians are to blame for fostering Prop 13 and its figurehead-from-Hell ronald reagan on the rest of the nation. And there are those who say California is a true blue state. It IS. For NOW. But if it's going to stay that way, we cannot afford to drop our guard. The enemy is always awake, always watching, always on alert, always looking for an in, always looking for a loophole, always looking for a stray thread that they can pull at and pick at so it starts a greater unraveling. They're ALWAYS at it. So we cannot afford not to be.

Do not assume for a New York (or Massachusetts OR California) minute that there aren't armies of activists who dream of the day they can turn BOTH our states red. Hell, we just recently had fucking schwarzenegger blight the landscape in Sacramento in a bare-naked heist of the governor's office, and he's a CON. Massachusetts and their lovely and embarrassingly naive Martha Coakley got complacent and took a vacation and figured this was already in the bag and didn't fight and didn't stay vigilant - and look what happened there! That idiot scott brown was able to slither his way in - and now he has a base of support to wage further war that he would not have had if he'd been kept in his place and the fight had been taken seriously.

We can't EVER afford to assume that just because Massachusetts or California are blue states NOW - that they'll stay that way. Don't think for an instant that there aren't tons of activists on the other side whose dream and determination is nothing but snatching those states away from us and turning them red. They're out there. And at the moment we have the upper hand. AT THE MOMENT. And that can very easily change.

Totally! I really appreciate how she's kept us posted about WC Green.

And the way she always addresses us - "my dear so-n-so..." Always did like that! Same thing for The Magistrate, who always addressees the poster as "sir," or "ma'am." Just that little bit of niceness. An elegant little detail!

Awwww...

Love you back!

June 30, 2014

Uh-HUH!!!! Well, MrScorpio, we tell 'em and tell 'em and tell 'em, and remind 'em and remind 'em

and remind 'em. And they don't go out and vote. They concede before even going out onto the playing field. They shrug their shoulders and parrot the CON logic that "both parties alike." "They're all the same." No difference between blah-blah-blah..."

What can you do? And hey, religiosos - what happens when some Sharia Muslim business folk assert the same right that YOU assumed was only going to be confined to the Southern Baptist contingent? Whaddya do then?

Hey, folks at the state level - STILL think both parties are alike? STILL think there's no point in voting? STILL think your voice counts as much as the wackos who show up, pardon the pun, religiously at the polls every doggone time, whether it's for President or dog catcher - IF YOU DON'T SHOW UP??? STILL think what YOU thought was "settled law" really IS accepted as "settled law"?

I hope this sends a message to all the marriage equality advocates across America. Just because you're winning now doesn't mean that will stand. There are far too many people who think YOU do not deserve such rights or protections, and the Supreme Court has just opened the door to arguments they can now use on their side - to insist that THEIR "closely-held" religious right trumps yours. And they don't give up. They WILL be coming for those hard-earned and hard-fought rights you've recently won. GUARANTEED. Indeed, they already are!

Well, doesn't that create jobs then?

Robust sales > pumps the demand > compels more hiring to meet the demand > more jobs > more money in people's pockets > more money circulating in the local economy > buy more pot > get more munchies > MORE robust Laffy Taffy sales > etc etc etc!

And HOW!

I vote like my life depended on it. Because it does. Still. And I'm sorry to say I've been forced into being a litmus-test voter. The first thing I always try to ascertain is whether a candidate is pro-choice. That's the first and sometimes ONLY hurdle. If he or she can't get past that, I am really not interested in anything else he/she has to say. Even on voting rights. Even on climate change. Even on income inequality. I can't vote for them if they're not onboard with a woman's right to choose. It's THAT fundamental to me. It is an ABSOLUTE. It is NON-NEGOTIABLE.

About calimary

Female. Retired. Wife-Mom-Grandma. Approx. 30 years in broadcasting, at least 20 of those in news biz. Taurus. Loves chocolate - preferably without nuts or cocoanut. Animal lover. Rock-hound from pre-school age. Proud Democrat for life. Ardent environmentalist and pro-choicer. Hoping to use my skills set for the greater good. Still married to the same guy for 40+ years. Probably because he's a proud Democrat, too. Penmanship absolutely stinks, so I'm glad I'm a fast typist! I will always love Hillary and she will always be my President.
