calimary's JournalI'm just a wee bit younger than both you and Hekate, but that sentiment has become my own, too.
Seriously - I CANNOT BELIEVE that I STILL have to protest this shit. I LOVE that one. But this is the version I saw first:

and lo these many years later...

I googled I cannot believe I still have to protest this shit - and found oodles more! Didn't realize it had carried so far!
Yep! I like them, too - especially Joy Reid! But glad to hear Rachel will be back tonight!
VERY glad!
Mainly because this was such a comparatively long absence that I started getting worried. Must have been a humdinger of a flu bug (or whatever was ailing her).
Besides, I'd guess she'd move Heaven and Earth and have herself brought in on a stretcher for this week in particular. Doubt she'd want to miss the Comey coverage.
GOOD. Glad this is coming out.
Now THAT'S how a President is supposed to sound at a time like this.
SO proud I voted for her. Sorry Donald. SHE'S my President. NOT you. She'll ALWAYS be my President.
Welcome to DU, Jacquette!
We were all celebrating that day. Everybody I knew was reveling, with some version of "we FINALLY GOT that bastard!"
Amazing, isn't it, how later presidents actually wound up making Nixon look good?
One thing that he did that I bet other politicians took VERY close note of: remember how he smiled, remained so poised, stood at the door of Marine One and threw out his arms, making the victory sign with his fingers, and beaming as though he'd just won the lottery? Well, lo these many years later, THAT is the takeaway. You don't get the angst, the anguish, the public humiliation. You don't get the sense of him feeling or looking like a man utterly defeated. He projected the image of a winner. Makes me think of the comments about that asshole Tom DeLay's mug shot after he got into serious legal trouble, and convicted of criminal charges of conspiracy. He looked straight into the camera and smiled this big smile as though he was about to go walk his daughter down the aisle or something. And THAT'S the visual you're left with. You don't get to see him looking down 'n' out (which would have been well-deserved in his case). Years later, you'll see that photo and only note the confident-looking smiling face, not the guy who would be facing a possible prison sentence! Recognizing that as an actual mug shot is not even in the vibe of it.
Sneaky slick little trick there, 'eh?
Welcome to DU, bdtrppr6!
I watched the hearings. I was in college. Home for the summer. Couldn't peel myself away from the TV in the family room. Transfixed! I didn't understand all the fine points, but I knew even back then that this was history I was witnessing. That, and following the reportage of Woodward and Bernstein was what made me want to get into the news biz. But then again, everybody I knew in school wanted to do that. Some of us females also fancied ourselves as the new Barbara Walters. I remember thinking - imagine doing THAT for a living!
Welcome to DU, zoidaloid!
I know how you feel. Every time his image blights my vision, I find myself thinking about the voters who somehow saw fit to vote for him for President. And I try like hell to find some way to understand them. I'm certainly told that I should do that. But I give up. To see how many of them are sticking with him, how he still has as much support from his cockamamie out-to-lunch so-called "base," I just lose all sense of understanding or patience. Yeah, okay, root for him when he first starts out in the new job. But SHIT! This clusterfuck is just NEVER-ENDING!!! It just NEVER ends! Every time one thinks he can't make a bigger fuckstick out of himself, he DOES! He's like a black mold epidemic or termite infestation or something! That's left untreated! I find myself looking at trump supporters differently now. That they voted for this beast tells me things about them that aren't very nice, and certainly don't provoke any sympathy from me. THEY decided to climb into bed with him. Unfortunately, it's meant the rest of us got dragged in there, too, and very much against our will. That was no election. That was a rape of most of America.
SORRY, WORLD. All I can say is that I'm proud that I never fell for it.
Take a number. I LOVE these posts.
Definitely a Fan of TheFerret!
Sometimes I guess one has to take the sardonic humor of a situation like this - even though when you think about what's written, it honestly ISN'T that funny.
I must admit I do take comfort in reading things like this. Reassures me that I'm not alone in feeling exactly as this describes. This guy makes me feel like America has collectively stepped in a colossal splat of dogshit. And we can't yet get it off our shoes.
Mexico's president isn't bad-looking either.
Enrique Peña Nieto. That one image of him, Justin Trudeau, and Barack Obama walking down some tarmac together (I think) still sticks in my mind. President Obama was in the middle. Mmm-Mmm-Mmmmm. Three little kittens.
