I can understand the wish to avoid aggravation and conflict and possible arguments. Life’s too short.

Maybe you’ve had the good fortune to have met a Republican who’s also in touch with her humanity first, and then the politics and the what-they-stand-for problems later. I wish they were all like that. But sometimes, as one ages, it could be that repeated efforts at patience and understanding and compassion and camaraderie just don’t work with some people. And then, it might just be better and less potentially combustible to minimize contact.
