Atticus
Atticus's JournalJust to lay down a marker: I will support whoever the Democratic Party nominates in 2024,
but I hope it is Joe Biden.
Surely this was a typo, right? A misprint?
I just read that Senator Warnock is "up by 4 percentage points".
They omitted a zero after that "4"--- didn't they?
In the country I grew up in, there's no way a malignant clown like Herschel Walker is only 4 points behind a candidate like Reverend Warnock. A "40" point lead still sounds low, but it is at least within the parameters of "reasonable"--- sort of.
Those who cook will understand.
Our turkey went into the oven at 6:00 a.m. and will mostly take care of itself for several hours. Now, a large skillet heaped with diced onion and celery is simmering slowly on the stove in preparation for making a HUGE pan of dressing. And, the aroma of onion and celery sauteing in butter swelled my heart and moistened my eyes.
That unmistakable smell is what I woke up to on Thanksgiving morning in every year of my childhood. I think Mom got up at 4:30 or so to get things started for our Thanksgiving meal. She'd have worked the day before and begun her commute at 5:30 that morning. She had every right to ""sleep in" like the rest of us, but there she was---seeing the first rays of sun touch the window above the sink as she began pulling together the meal we would again pronounce the "best ever".
She loved us.
Mom died in '98, but this morning as I stirred, teary-eyed, I swear she was beside me.
Thanks, Mom---love you!
This morning, a just-risen sun painted grey goose breasts gold as they set their wings, tilted
toward the pond, glided in and skied to a stop at the far end. And, I was there---right time, right place--- to witness both miracles: the gilding and the gliding.

WARNING: this post will be disgusting. Don't read it if you're about to have dinner..
Hearing the latest outrageously disgusting spew from tfg or the Sedition Caucus is sorta like looking into an open septic tank when someone "upstream" flushes. It does no good to point at the latest thing to "drop" and go on about how "disgusting" it is.
If you weren't sickened by the stench already, don't pretend that a little more of the same crap offends you!
---sigh---Have I missed it? Apparently, Mr. Aldrich---the Club Q murderer---just last June had
threatened to kill his mother with a "homemade bomb, numerous weapons and ammunition" according to the police who confronted him and go whom he surrendered after a stream of profane threats.
Further, Mr. Aldrich himself recently purchased the AR-15 style rifle and the handgun with which he murdered 5 and wounded 18.
I have not heard anyone mention that "How in hell was this wannabe bomber allowed to purchase these firearms?" should be at the top of the list of "questions to be answered".
Who dropped the ball---or---were these gun purchases "technically legal" in Colorado?
Supposedly, Colorado has a "red flag" law. Did that get ignored or is it regarded as "just more liberal nonsense" in ultra-conservative Colorado Springs.
Again---did I miss the thorough coverage of this or are there a lot of folks who "just don't want to make waves" for the "fine Christians" holding press conferences?(>
John Robert's opened with this at his 2005 confirmation hearing:
Judges are like umpires. Umpires dont make the rules; they apply them. The role of an umpire and a judge is critical. They make sure everybody plays by the rules. But it is a limited role. Nobody ever went to a ball game to see the umpire... I will remember that its my job to call balls and strikes and not to pitch or bat.
If not such a harmful lie, that would be laughable.
He thought the SCOTUS was similar to baseball, with rules, clearly marked boundaries and sacred traditions. But, Ayatollah Alito, Ginnie's squeeze and the Trump Triumvirate are there to play smash-mouth politics.

Is it not at least somewhat amazing that so many of those now writing OP-eds and
providing "commentary" on cable about how terrible Trump was/is are people who we believe should die in prison with him?
