About Me

I've been a female working a "man's job" (mechanical engineer), stay at home Mom (6 kids), working Mom (6 kids to put through college), unemployed, underemployed, temporarily employed and now working from home! We live on an old, small farm with 2 dogs and 2 cats in the house, variable number of chickens out in the yard.

Have you ever read or heard of someone complaining because their script for thyroid hormone

was too high? The web is awash with complaints from people who think their script is too low, or that they should be prescribed Armour instead of Synthroid, etc. As a corollary, has anyone ever self diagnosed as hyperthyroid been told that their TSH was just fine?

What are you looking forward to most this February 14?

Republicans have more or less shut down various agencies simply by refusing

to approve a nominee to head the agency. Case in point: the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau was hog tied because it couldn't issue regulations for months as the Elizabeth Warren nomination was frozen.

So what happens if the Republicans refuse to approve Hagel for Defense?

Where were you when Benedict was elected?

I was working a factory job where we had strictly limited lunch breaks and coffee breaks. I happened to be in the lunch room when the results were announced. Even though I was disappointed at the results, I did share some smiles with a woman who was a Bosnian refugee. We were both glad that a Pope had been elected.

There seem to be various debates about the armament being carried by Dorner -

for example, is a 50 caliber bullet 5" long or 5 1/2" long?

My reaction is, if you are hit by one, it doesn't much matter!

Thank you!

About the drones - are we exploring any other options?

I would think that going after the money trail would be more effective than trying to kill people.

Lent Madness - which saint will take the Golden Halo?

I suspect I'm late to this party , but have you heard of the rally to fight climate change?

What: The largest climate rally in U.S. history.

When: February 17, 2013, Noon - 4:00 p.m. (please arrive by 11:30 a.m.)

Where: The National Mall in Washington, D.C.
Gather at the northeast corner of the Washington Monument
(Closest Metro subway stations: Federal Triangle and Smithsonian)
What is the goal of the rally?

We need to move President Obama to take immediate action on climate. One of the most important decisions he can make is to reject the toxic Keystone XL tar sands pipeline. Another is to tell the EPA to set carbon standards for power plants. This rally will show the president how large the climate movement has grown, and how urgent this issue truly is.

President Obama must move America forward on climate in 2013 with decisive action to reduce dangerous carbon pollution. His legacy as the 44th President of the United States of America rests on his leadership in the face of an unstable and uncertain climate future. Only the President of the United States has the power to lead an effort on the scale and with the urgency needed to phase out fossil fuels and fire up both energy efficiency and clean, renewable energy sources.

Anyone ever use coconut oil in a pie crust to substitute for lard or Crisco?
