Ohio GOP bill would raise unemployment taxes, cut benefits

Republican legislative leaders proposed a new plan Tuesday to overhaul Ohio’s unemployment compensation system by raising taxes on employers and lowering benefits paid to jobless workers.

Identical bills introduced in the House and Senate which leaders intend to pass by the end of the year would:

■ Reduce unemployment benefits from a standard 26 weeks to to a sliding scale of 20 to 26 weeks, depending on the state unemployment rate. The full 26 weeks would apply whenever Ohio’s unemployment rate hits 8 percent or above. The 20 weeks would apply when the rate drops to 5.5 or lower, as it has for the past two years.

■ Raise the taxable wage base from $9,000 to $11,000 to increase employers’ contribution to the fund.

■ Freeze benefits for employees and increase employer payments until solvency is reached.

■ Lower additional benefits paid to jobless workers with dependents.

The measure does not include a new tax paid by employees, an option that had been discussed by lawmakers. The changes would take effect Jan. 1, 2018.

Prepare for emergencies.
Before the day even starts find a safe space and give yourself a good pep-talk.

Fifth….
Don’t lose hope.
Here’s the thing. We will survive a Trump Presidency. We really will. Oh, it’s going to be four years of hell alright, but we WILL survive it. And if we can survive the Apocalypse called Trump, we can survive one day with our misguided relatives.

If all else fails, take a deep breath and start over at number one.

Just returned - I couldn't take it any more without DU

I had to break down and buy a star just to get some sanity. Crazy I know, but with all the craziness here, it's nothing compared to the rest of the world.

I have not had a star for some time due to my employment situation or lack thereof. But I finally had to buck up. The last two weeks have left me is dispare. The rhetoric from family alone is driving me insane. They all think we need to give this asshole a chance and we must respect him. I blew up at my sister today and that was it. I had to have an outlet with like understanding people.

I will not respect a misogynistic, racist, homophobic, xenophobic criminal ño matter what title he claims. I will not respect any of his enablers or those who voted for him. I will not allow his hate to become normal in this country.

I am just glad to be back where I can express my thoughts.

Ted Cruz (R-TX) is well known for his tyrannical puritanism and unhealthy aversion to anything sexual. He’s spent his entire life shaming people for expressing their natural sexuality – especially women. Cruz never grew or even deviated from his smug and self-righteous imposition of his own morals on those around him, from that time he was in college and called his friend’s mother a “whore” for her abortion to his recent assertions that he would force women to carry their rapist’s baby to term.

As a solicitor general, he argued that Americans have no right to sell sex toys or even have the right to masturbate at all. “There is no substantive-due-process right to stimulate one’s genitals for non-medical purposes unrelated to procreation or outside of an interpersonal relationship” he argued in defense of a state ban on dildos in 2004, as apparently they are “obscene” devices that likely contain demons that are released upon orgasm or whatever primitive nonsense that evangelicals use to justify the imposition of Christian sharia law.

Ted Cruz’s roommate in college, however, has a very different story to tell.
