The Scariest Thing About Marjorie Taylor Greene? Shes Not Alone.
For the United States Congress, shes still a little on the extreme side. But out there in red America, there are millions of Marjorie Taylor Greenes. Yes, millions.

Taylor Greene is an odd mélange of all the worst elements of Trumps Republican Party. Shes got all the crazy of a Louie Gohmert mixed with the virulent racism of a Steve King with a dash of the weird paranoia of a Devin Nunes. Her social media is a virtual oppo research file filled with some of the craziest, most disturbing Boomer brain worm content imaginable, from QAnon conspiracy theories to the preposterous idea that 9/11 was an inside job. And even before she was sworn in, MTG was at the White House having a planning session with the Trump team about how she was going to stop Joe Biden from stealing the election.
But probably the scariest thing about Taylor Greene isnt her insane beliefs. Its that shes not alone. For starters, she is the representative of Georgias 14th Congressional District, a place where more than six thousand recently signed a petition to save a local statue of Nathan Bedford Forrest, the first grand wizard of the Ku Klux Klan.
Pulling the camera back, Taylor Greene represents a real part of the Boomer mom conspiracy-minded Trump base. She may be a little on the extreme side for Congress. But we have every reason to believe that out there in red America, there are millions of people who think everything she thinks and believe every word she says. Yes, I said millions.
To say Taylor Greene is red-pilled doesnt begin to cover the Alex Jones-style bugs gnawing on her cerebral cortex. Shes flirted with 9/11 trutherism, and the idea that school shootings are false flags, writing on Facebook that I am told that Nancy Pelosi tells Hillary Clinton several times a month that we need another school shooting in order to persuade the public to want strict gun control. Then theres the March 2019 video of her harassing school shooting survivor and teenager David Hogg. The visual of a middle-aged woman screaming at a teenager on the street is pretty jarring. CNN noted that in a deleted Facebook post MTG called Hogg #littlehitler.

Suspect in Duck Hunters Killing Found Dead in Tenn. Lake
MYSTERY DEEPENS

Tennessee Bureau of Investigation
After a weeklong manhunt, authorities have found the body of a 70-year-old man wanted in the slaying of two Tennessee duck hunters. David Vowell was discovered in Reelfoot Lake, the same body of water where he allegedly ambushed Zachery Grooms, 25, and Chance Black, 26, on Monday. The victims were in a duck blind when Vowell allegedly drove his boat in and opened fire, according to the Jackson Sun. A third hunter knocked out Vowell but told police that as he tried to get the victims to safety, he saw the gunman walking toward the riverbank. Vowell, who owned a lumber company and had no criminal record, was facing first-degree murder charges. His cause of death has not been released.

That is the title of this superb Washington Post column, which to put it mildly, is absolutely on fire, superbly written, with prose at which you cannot help but goWow!
I will not go through the entire column, because you really should read it. Trust me.
It begins simply enough, but as you will quickly see, by the end of the second paragraph Parfkers words are to put it simply on fire:
Note that last groups of words: a halfway house for ruffians, insurrectionists and renegadewarriors.
But as you can see below, she is just getting started.
Try this, and after you read it, read it again:
There is much more of that pointed language.
Immediately after what I just quote is a paragraph that begins
In trying to explain todays Republicans, Parker muses that either Trump has lots of incriminating videos, or
todays Republicans are the weakest, wimpiest, most pathetic crop of needy nincompoops in U.S. history.
There is more, including a final paragraph which I will leave you to read as the culmination of reading the entire piece.
Do it.
Then pass it on.
Youll be glad you did.

With the electoral eviction of Donald Trump from the Oval Office, Republicans had a shot at redemption and resurrection.
They missed and failed and deserve to spend the next several years in political purgatory. The chaos now enveloping whats left of the Grand Old Party after four years of catering to an unstable president is theirs to own. Where conservatism once served as a moderating force gently braking liberalisms boundless enthusiasm the former home of ordered liberty has become a halfway house for ruffians, insurrectionists and renegadewarriors.

The partys end was inevitable, foreshadowed in 2008 when little-boy Republican males, dazzled by the pretty, born-again, pro-life Alaska governor, thought Sarah Palin should be a heartbeat away from the presidency. The dumbing down of conservatism, in other words, began its terminal-velocity plunge, with a wink and a pair of shiny red shoes. Palin cast a spell as potent as the poppy fields of Oz, but turned the United States into her own moose-poppin, gum-smackin reality show.
Forget Kansas. Were not in America anymore.

Trump left behind a sanctions minefield for Biden
The new administration may find that reviving the Iran deal is much easier said that done.
By NAHAL TOOSI

It was one of Joe Bidens few concrete campaign promises on foreign policy: Hed rejoin a nuclear pact his predecessor ripped as horrible and the worst deal ever. But to achieve that goal, is Biden willing to declare that Irans Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps is not a terrorist organization?
How about lifting U.S. sanctions on the Central Bank of Iran, which stands accused of funding proxy Middle East militias? Or will Biden do away with sanctions aimed at Iranians who tried to interfere in the U.S. election?
Thanks to President Donald Trumps imposition of these and other sanctions on Iran, such questions are sure to plague Biden and his aides as they seek a path back to the 2015 nuclear agreement. The presidents team is in a political bind: They must tread carefully before rolling back the thicket of sanctions Trump left behind, but Iran insists most if not all of them must be eliminated before the deal can be revived. Already, Republicans and even some Democrats are signaling they intend to fight Biden every step of the way. And while Bidens national security adviser, Jake Sullivan, said Friday that tackling Irans nuclear program is a critical early priority, others in the administration have declined to put a timeframe on returning to the nuclear deal.
For now, career U.S. government employees involved in sanctions policy have been thinking through what steps to take to return to the deal, a U.S. official said. They plan to submit their ideas to incoming Biden political appointees, including Rob Malley, a veteran foreign affairs practitioner whom Biden has named as a special envoy for Iran.
So what will Biden do? Here are the basic contours of the debate:

Stimulus payments being cut for some with government debts
Congress allowed the reductions for people behind on taxes, student loan payments and other obligations
By AARON LORENZO

Millions of people who owe taxes and other money to the government are seeing their economic stimulus payments cut or wiped out to cover the debts because Congress peeled back a protection that had been in place for months.
The cuts may be particularly hitting those most in need of relief money because of the coronavirus pandemic, including veterans, Social Security recipients and students.
The problem has arisen because the IRS is redirecting stimulus payments for some people to settle unpaid federal and state taxes, Social Security and Veterans Affairs debts, student loan debt and child support obligations, according to the Taxpayer Advocate Service, an in-house IRS watchdog.
Congress had shielded previous payments from being rerouted for those types of things, except for unpaid child support, but moved the goalposts at the end of December, when it approved another round of stimulus payments of up to $600 per person.
Most of those payments went directly to households, through direct deposits or paper checks, and their money cant be redirected.
But millions of others who didnt get direct payments need to file tax returns this year and claim a recovery rebate credit, or RRC, to receive the stimulus money. Some 8 million households are in that boat, according to a recent Treasury Department estimate, and a good share of them might not get the credit because Congress directed the IRS to instead steer the money to cover various debts, National Taxpayer Advocate Erin Collins said.

Nadler presses DOJ to prosecute all involved in Capitol riot
By Tal Axelrod - 01/29/21 04:14 PM EST
House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.) is demanding answers from the Department of Justice (DOJ) in response to reports that it is considering not charging more of the people who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6.
Nadler expressed alarm at the possibility that some might not be charged, saying it was "critical that all of the perpetrators of this insurrectionist attack be identified, investigated, arrested, charged and subsequently prosecuted, he wrote in a letter to acting Attorney General Monty Wilkinson

A week and a half into Joe Bidens presidency, Democrats are adopting a more muscular approach to dealing with Republicans, essentially declaring they will work with them if they can but are prepared move past them if they must, the Washington Post reports.
Many Democrats are concluding that Republicans are unlikely to work with them and that waiting for them to do so would be a mistake. Biden seems to be heeding that argument to some degree.

I find that one of the key challenges we have seen in America, but also in Europe and Asia, is the kind of increasing conflict based on inequality, Eide said. Black Lives Matter has become a very important worldwide movement to fight racial injustice.
They have had a tremendous achievement in raising global awareness and consciousness about racial injustice.

Two Pennsylvania women were arrested on Friday after allegedly storming the Capitol on Jan. 6and expressing their intent to kill House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Dawn Bancroft and Diana Santos-Smith are facing three charges including knowingly entering or remaining in a restricted building without lawful authority, and violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds. In a criminal complaint, prosecutors allege the pair were seen in a video trying to exit the Capitol after the riots. We broke into the Capitol
we got inside, we did our part, Bancroft, who is wearing a MAGA ski-cap, said in the video. We were looking for Nancy to shoot her in the friggin brain but we didnt find her.
When the FBI questioned Santos-Smith on Jan. 20, she initially said she only attended former Trumps rally and didnt physically enter the Capitol. After agents showed her the video of her and Bancroft, Santos-Smith admitted they went inside but didnt have a pre-planned agenda to do so. She added that when she and Bancroft arrived at the Capitol, they heard protesters saying theyre letting us in, which she interpreted as being allowed entry. The pair entered through a broken windowwhich Santos-Smith said she knew they should not have done.

And that's just Greene. Gun nut and food poisoning enthusiast Lauren Boebert and Nazi-lover (and that's not hyperbole) Madison Cawthorn, both also actually at least as dumb as Louis Gohmert, deserve their own lists of bullshit. By the way, none of these are working class, everyday people suffering from economic anxiety. Greene is fucking wealthy, so she's just attention hungry, power mad, and bugfuck insane.
This is the kind of shit that Republicans and the news media ignore when they're asking Democrats why they're not "unifying" the Congress or the country. It's beyond ludicrous. Democrats are being asked to work with people who have stated that they should be killed by mob law. You don't "unify" with your terrorists. You unify with others to get rid of the terrorists, and you tell anyone who wants to let the terrorists terrorize without consequences to go fuck themselves.
The question should be posed to Republicans: "Why won't you join with Democrats to condemn the fucking violent assholes in your caucus and call for their removal? Wouldn't that make Congress function better? Why do you hate unity?"
But, instead, we're supposed to be worried because President Joe Biden is signing a lot of executive orders to unfuck the country that the terrorist leader fucked.

3. She thinks that the Rothschilds (google it - basically, it's shorthand for "Jews," just like "Soros" ) and a California energy company used "space solar generators" to fire a laser that started the wildfires in that state in order to clear land for a high-speed rail system that will financially benefit the above and Jerry Brown and, Jesus fuck, I feel dumber just for having written that. In her hilarious Facebook post on the space laser, Greene assures us, "I'm posting this in speculation because there are too many coincidences to ignore." If you've ever wondered who the fuck are the people who post this shit, well, they're in Congress now.
4. She has suggested that Nancy Pelosi should be executed by firing squad for treason and that Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama should be hanged for something something Iran, and you gotta imagine that that kind of shit is an HR nightmare.
5. Oh, this is not to mention her racism, Islamophobia, homophobia, and generally despicable world view where white Christians who support Donald Trump are the only people who should have any say. In one truly fucking idiotic act, she marched into the Capitol in February 2019 to try to get Reps. Omar and Tlaib (you know, part of the Squad, the Moby Dick to the nutzoids Ahab) to retake their oaths of office on a Bible rather the Quran they had used because she thinks that's illegitimate. Except you can take your oath with your hand on anything: "I swear by the crisp and stuck-together pages of this copy of the Marquis de Sade's 120 Days of Sodom..." The oath is important, not the book you fondle while taking it.
