Kushner Firm Will Launch 'Eviction Wave'

Kushner Firm Will Launch 'Eviction Wave'
"Kushner is the poster child for ultra-rich landlords clamoring to boost their bottom line by kicking families to the curb, even if it comes at the expense of public health."
By Common Dreams

Properties owned by former White House adviser Jared Kushner's family company have filed at least 590 eviction lawsuits since the start of the coronavirus pandemic and more than 200 in 2021 alone, putting "countless tenants" at risk of losing their homes in parts of the U.S. where Covid-19 transmission levels remain dangerously high.

The analysis comes less than a month after the conservative-dominated U.S. Supreme Court struck down a nationwide moratorium that protected millions of people from eviction for non-payment of rent—a decision that housing advocates warned could spark a devastating wave of evictions and worsen the pandemic.

"Jared Kushner is the poster child for ultra-rich landlords clamoring to boost their bottom line by kicking families to the curb, even if it comes at the expense of public health," Kyle Herrig, president of Accountable.US, told Common Dreams. "By siding with big rental companies, the Supreme Court veered even further to the right and welcomed a homelessness crisis that will fan the flames of the once-in-a-lifetime pandemic."

"With eviction protections gone," Herrig added, "corporate landlords like Kushner are relishing the soonest opportunity to evict the vulnerable, but it's still a choice: is it worth making themselves a little bit richer in the short term while making communities where their tenants reside far less healthy? We hope they put people before profits."

Leading evangelical & rabid Trumper, Robert Jeffress, comes out in favor of COVID vaccination.

Leading evangelical & rabid Trumper, Robert Jeffress, comes out in favor of COVID vaccination.

Robert Jeffress, the pastor of the First Baptist Church of Dallas, has announced that he and his staff “are neither offering nor encouraging members to seek religious exemptions from the vaccine mandates.” At first blush, this would seem to be swimming against the tide of evangelical opinion that the COVID vaccine is a mortal sin because they say it contains fetal cells. So why has Jeffress taken the stand he has? First, a little background.

There are two kinds of conservative evangelical leaders. Those who have a deep and abiding faith in God and do their level best to lead lives that would make Jesus proud. And those who cynically use Christianity as a tool to amass power and wealth. The vast majority of American conservative evangelicals are the second kind. And Jeffress is among their number.

He is a long-time backer of Trump.
Even after the January 6th Capitol insurrection, he was tweeting his support for the now ex-President. Jeffress is an advocate of Trump as a modern-day Cyrus — the Persian Emperor who, although not Jewish himself, freed the C.6th BCE Jews from their captivity in Babylon and allowed them to build a temple in Israel.

The point of Jeffress's argument is that, although Trump was personally a moral pig, he was enabling Jeffress to pursue his misogynistic, homophobic, anti-immigrant crusade. “An enemy of my enemy is my friend”, if you will. This enthusiasm for Trump was instrumental in whipping his congregation into ecstatic support for the serial failure. It was a scene repeated in megachurches from coast to coast. Which raises the question, why is Jeffress advocating for something so disturbing to his base?

The answer has nothing to do with moral clarity or doing the right thing. It comes from a sense that the right is losing control of the vaccine mandate. COVID is becoming a political millstone for them. And most importantly it is losing them the political support to enact their hateful agenda.

Thousands of Haitian migrants fleeing disaster and unrest seek asylum at Del Rio bridge

That's a lot of people.

Thousands of Haitian migrants fleeing disaster and unrest seek asylum at Del Rio bridge
With an estimated 12,000 migrants already crowded under the international bridge and thousands more expected, Del Rio’s mayor declared an emergency Friday and requested state assistance.
by Uriel J. García and Jolie McCullough Sept. 17, 2021 Updated: 7 PM Central

DEL RIO — Five days after Haitian President Jovenel Moise was assassinated by a group of foreign mercenaries on July 7, 29-year-old Stelin Jean decided to flee the country with his wife and two children — traveling to Bolivia, where many Haitians have arrived recently before starting an arduous overland trek to the United States.

The family was in Panama last month when a 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck Haiti, destroying thousands of homes and killing more than 2,000 people. Jean said some of his family members were injured in the earthquake, which only increased their sense of urgency to make it to the United States.

“There’s people killing each other in Haiti, there’s just no justice,” said Jean, who arrived at the U.S.-Mexico border on Wednesday afternoon after a two-month trek through the jungles of South America and then crossed the Rio Grande at Del Rio to claim asylum. “I just want to live a calm life without any problems, I want to live somewhere where I know there’s justice.”

The family has joined an estimated 12,000 migrants who in recent days have arrived at the border and are now waiting under the Del Rio international bridge, about 150 miles west of San Antonio, to be processed by U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Most are from Haiti and are seeking asylum in the U.S.

CIA Director Gina Haspel: Trump's Behavior After Election Loss Was 'Insanity'
Trump's former CIA director said the baby man had a break down and acted out like a "6-year-old with a tantrum."
By John Amato

In Bob Woodward's new book Peril, it was revealed that Trump's former CIA director Gina Haspel discussed the treasonous ex-president's mental state after he lost the election on November 10.

Business Insider reports Haskell said,"We are on the way to a right-wing coup. The whole thing is insanity. He is acting out like a six-year-old with a tantrum."

She made these remarks to General Mark Milley after Trump fired his Secretary of Defense Mark Esper on November 9.

Gen. Milley comes off as a true patriot to the Constitution and not a Trump puppet like, for instance, Richard Grenell. Milley said, "we're going to be steady - -we're going to keep our eye on the horizon. Keep alert to any risks, dangers. Keep the channels open."

Traitor Trump is still acting like a six year-old out of office.

The Rude Pundit: Missing the Real Story: Like Many Others, Milley Said Trump Is Nuts

The Rude Pundit
Proudly lowering the level of political discourse
Missing the Real Story: Like Many Others, Milley Said Trump Is Nuts

I get the uproar over Bob Woodward's latest luridly compelling book on the administration of Donald Trump. Woodward is like a filthy tabloid version of Robert Caro, and he always squeezes every anecdote for maximum salaciousness. So in his telling, Gen. Mike Milley, Trump's (and now Biden's) Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff, was so alarmed at Trump's behavior before the election and after the January 6 riot that he felt compelled to call his counterpart in China and say, more or less, "Don't listen to this president. We're not going to attack you."

What you're hearing mostly about Milley's two phone calls is that he was "treasonous," that he should be "court martialed," and that he should face "immediate dismissal" for undermining civilian leadership of the military. On the other side, Milley himself has defended what he did as proper and that it was "within the duties and responsibilities" of his position to tell other countries that the United States is not going to war with them. He's backed by other generals and President Biden. Chances are that this is really a big nothing sandwich that Woodward oversold and overhyped, as is his way.

And that's a whole interesting discussion we can and should have, but it really misses the whole fucking forest for a few shitty trees. Because, see, what's truly important about what Milley, along with then-CIA director Gina Haspel, said is to confirm that the United States was run by a dangerous and unstable fucknut whose naturally worst instincts were held in check by a few public servants who saw that Trump had the potential to fuck things up in an even more deadly and destructive way than he already had.

In other words, the person who is seen as the head of the Republican Party, who would win the presidential nomination in a walk, who is worshiped by millions of Americans, who has politicians bowing and scraping for his favor, yeah, that fuckin' guy is legit a goddamn maniac.

That's the story. That's what we should be talking about. Yeah, fine, we can get around to the debate over whether Milley overstepped his authoritah or whatever. But I'd like to put that on the back burner until we're done reckoning with and doing something about the murderous lunatic who's in charge of one of our two parties. See, when someone is trying to burn down my house, I'm not gonna worry if the pizza delivery guy overcharged me, especially if the pizza delivery guy stopped the arsonist. In that case, I'd probably just tell him, "We'll call this one a wash."

You can just toss Milley and Haspel, who called Trump's post-2020 election behavior "insanity" and said that he was "acting out like a six-year-old with a tantrum," onto the pile of former Trump officials in some of the most important jobs in government who have been quoted or have publicly stated that the ex-president is a mothefucking loon. You've got former national security adviser John Bolton, a loon himself, saying that Trump is "irrational" and a conspiracy-monger. You've got former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson saying that Trump acts impulsively and, perhaps, calling him a "fucking moron." You've got former Secretary of Defense James Mattis, former Chief of Staff John Kelly, and former Secretary of the Navy Richard Spencer, among others, saying that Trump is, at best, an incompetent boob and, at worst, a danger to the existence of the country. We may never know how many times Trump took us to the brink of national calamity, only for someone to intervene and get him to back off. We know how his insane insistence on bullshit and lies prolonged the pandemic and got hundreds of thousands killed. Goddamn, what else could he have done?

We should have been talking about that every day. Nancy Pelosi told Milley, "He's crazy. You know he's crazy. He's been crazy for a long time." Sorry, but that's way more important than whose toes Milley might have stepped on. And if Trump announces that he's running in 2024, then we're gonna need to make the fact that he's out of his tiny mind front and center in any discussion of him. It's the only story. We can't be too polite about talking about the mental health of someone whose mental health affects every person on the fucking planet. And we sure as hell can't be distracted by something that isn't about life and death.

I have become addicted to the Herman Cain Awards subreddit. They usually keep the identity of the nominees/award winners secret, but didn’t in the case of well-known anti-Muslim, anti-immigrant, anti-everything Republican congressional candidate Laura Loomer. It is also being reported in other places too, such as Democratic Underground. https://www.democraticunderground.com/100215864035 Most reports highlight a tweet of hers that didn’t age particularly well:

A subsequent tweet of hers shows that COVID-19 is indeed worse than bad fajitas:

I know it’s bad to wish ill of someone but she is such an awful person that I’m doing it in this case. Prayer Warriors, please pray for my soul.

U.S. judge blocks expulsions of migrant families under Trump-era order

U.S. judge blocks expulsions of migrant families under Trump-era order
Kristina Cooke and Mica Rosenberg
September 17, 2021, 6:05 AM

(Reuters) - A U.S. district judge on Thursday blocked the expulsion of migrant families caught crossing the U.S.-Mexico border under an order put in place by former President Donald Trump's administration early in the COVID-19 pandemic.

The order, invoking Title 42, was issued in March 2020 by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which cited the need to limit the spread of the coronavirus.

Judge Emmet Sullivan of the U.S. District Court for the District of Colombia wrote the public health law the policy is based on does not authorize the expulsions of migrants. Expelling asylum seekers denies them the "opportunity to seek humanitarian benefits" they are entitled to under immigration law, he wrote.

Sullivan's order takes effect in 14 days.
The Department of Justice and the Department of Homeland Security did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The judge's order only applies to families and not to single adults, who represent most of the migrants arrested at the border.

David Corn: The Man Behind Saturday's Pro-Trump Rally Once Praised a Far-Right Assassin

The Man Behind Saturday’s Pro-Trump Rally Once Praised a Far-Right Assassin
Matt Braynard, the mastermind of the upcoming protest supporting the Jan. 6 rioters, also tried to overturn the 2020 election.
David Corn

A conservative outfit has announced it is organizing a rally on September 18 at the US Capitol to—get this—seek “justice” for the rioters arrested during the insurrectionist raid on Congress on January 6. The man behind this event is a former Trump 2016 campaign aide who after the 2020 election tried to cast himself as an independent elections expert and data analyst who had uncovered evidence of significant voter fraud. He also happens to be someone I’ve done a bit of reporting on.

Matt Braynard is the executive director of Look Ahead America, which describes itself as “an America First nonprofit dedicated to standing up for patriotic Americans who have been forgotten by our government.” Last month, he appeared on Steve Bannon’s podcast, Bannon’s War Room, and said that his group would be holding a demonstration at the Capitol “to push back against the phony narrative that there was an insurrection” on January 6. He insisted the mob that assailed Capitol Hill was “largely peaceful,” claiming that “this was a crowd that was egged on in many ways by Capitol police throwing flash-bang grenades into a relatively peaceful crowd.” Egged on? Did he not see even one of the videos from that day? More absurd, Braynard stated that this protest would “demand justice for these political prisoners”—a reference to the seditious marauders, some of whom pleaded guilty, who have been pursued and prosecuted by the FBI and the Justice Department. His statement echoed Trump’s recent comments about the 1/6 rioters in which he said the people arrested were “military people, and they’re police officers, and they’re construction workers. And they’re tremendous, in many cases, tremendous people, tremendous people.” Trump remarked that it was “not right” that so many of them were “currently incarcerated.”

As for the rally on behalf of these “tremendous people” who brutally attacked cops, threatened to lynch Vice President Mike Pence, tried to thwart a constitutional proceeding, and threatened House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Braynard vowed, “It’s going to be huge…We’re going back to the Capitol, right where it started.”
So now the Trump gang’s effort to whitewash this day of infamy and treason has a grassroots component that will try to replicate January 6. (Peacefully, of course, right?) I have no idea if Braynard and his organization, which doesn’t have much of a track record, can pull off a major event. (The group has fewer than 6,500 Twitter followers.) But this move further shreds Braynard’s already tattered credibility as a self-proclaimed elections expert whose work was frequently cited by pro-Trump forces to prop up Donald Trump’s Big Lie.

'Alabama Pickers,' Staunch Anti-Vaxxers, Both Dead Of COVID
YouTube stars Tristan and Dusty Graham, known for reselling found treasures, have both died within a couple of weeks of each other.
By Ed Scarce

YouTube stars Tristan and Dusty Graham have both died within a couple of weeks of each other. As is typical, a GoFundMe page was set up, this time by husband Tristan while he was in the hospital to cover the funeral expenses for his wife Dusty. Unbeknownst to him, he was also asking for his own funeral expenses.

Source: AL.com

A married Alabama couple known for their reselling videos on YouTube under the name “Alabama Pickers” have both died of COVID.

Dusty and Tristan Graham lived in Huntsville, where they would often post videos about various tips and tricks to reselling vintage items like clothes and home decor. They sold on eBay under the username, bama4348.

Dusty died Thursday, almost three weeks after his wife did, according to the GoFundMe page set up by one of their children.

Their YouTube channel is now deleted, as is Tristan's last video where he talks about finding his wife dead at home and asking for help with funeral expenses. In the video above, captured by VAXX Man, connected to the website SORRYANTIVAXXER.COM, he says this:

“I’ve got my own passport. It’s called the ‘Bill of Rights,’” Dusty said in the video around the 41:30 mark. “I think this will be all behind us in a couple of years.”

Dusty later spelled out the word vaccine and said that it was actually a form of immunity therapy they were giving people.

Less than a month after this video was posted they were both dead.

Eric Boehlert: Has Biden's approval rating "plummeted"? Nope

Has Biden's approval rating "plummeted"? Nope
More media hand wringing
Eric Boehlert

Amid breathless reports of a political “free fall” and reeling from the White House’s “summer from hell,” the Beltway press has leaned into the idea that Joe Biden’s presidency is unraveling — that his approval rating is in a state of collapse.

Except it’s not true. Instead, it’s the media falling in love with their favorite Dems In Disarray storyline. The same media that shrugged at Trump’s chronically awful approval rating.

In a typical, overheated dispatch, a CNBC report recently announced, “Biden's Approval Ratings Have Plummeted, and That Could Spell trouble for Democrats in Congress.” First off, the idea that Biden’s approval rating in September 2021, is going to impact the outcome of November 2022, midterms makes no sense. Secondly, Biden’s approval rating has fallen a grand total of four points in the past month, according to the polling average tabulated at FiveThirtyEight. So much for the “plummet.”

Is Biden's’ approval rating down this summer? It is, to 46 percent. Is he in some sort of manic freefall as the press suggests, fueled by the troop pullout from Afghanistan and the Delta surge? He is not.
