Utah Residents Dress Up Naked "Leaf Dancer" Statue

Two years ago, Milt Neeley's sculpture "Leaf Dancer" won the city of Coalville's People's Choice Award for public art.

The wire and metal sculpture, which represents a dancer growing out of a bush, was erected on Main Street as part of Artscape, the Park City Summit County Arts Council's public art program.

Since then anonymous residents have dressed the dancer in an array of costumes including a cook, an Olympic swimmer and even a nun.

Instead of shaking their heads or getting angry, the Coalville City Council has embraced the tradition and established a program that invites residents to sign up to take turns dressing the "Leaf Dancer" from June 14 through Aug. 16, said Mayor Duane Schmidt.

"The concept of dreassing up the 'Leaf Dancer' statue was first brought up by some local kids who dressed it up," Schmidt told The Park Record. "There have been a lot of people who come into to town to see the leaf dancer, which has become an attraction because they want to see what kind of costume it will be wearing.

Cat Smuggling Illegal Cell Phones Into Russian Prison Detained By Authorities

Cat detained on illegal mission at Russian prison

MOSCOW (AP) -- Inmates at Russia's prisons have been known to bribe guards to obtain cellphones. But using cats as couriers?

Guards patrolling a prison colony in Russia's north saw a feline on the fence and it seemed to be carrying something. On a closer look, they found a few cellphones and chargers taped to the cat's belly.

The federal prison service said Monday that this happened on Friday at Penal Colony No. 1 near the city of Syktyvkar in the Komi province, 1,000 kilometers (some 600 miles) northeast of Moscow.

Dumb Criminals: Bellevue Man Accused Of Taking Truck Out For Extended Test Drive

Just ask a Belleview car dealership that called the cops on a Summerfield man on Friday for taking an older-model pickup truck from their lot for what was described by the salesman for a test drive.

As it turns out, the man was away for three hours, during which time he went to work. Eventually, he was found by a sheriff's deputy and arrested, according to Belleview Police Department officials.

An employee at Prestige Auto, 6041 SE Abshier Blvd., told Officer Jody Backlund of the Belleview Police Department that sometime after 1 p.m., a man, later identified as Lloyd Edward Kraft, entered the business and asked to test drive a red 1997 Ford F-250 valued at $5,000.

Kraft gave the employee his phone number and a copy of his driver's license was obtained by the worker, who gave Kraft the keys so he could test drive the truck.

Did This UFO Sacrifice Itself In A Mexican Volcano?

Mexico's media company, Televisa, monitors any daily activity around the volcano, which is about 40 miles south of Mexico City. Last November, video images showed what appeared to be a brightly lit, cigar-shaped object plunging into the top of Popocatepetl.

At the time, Marc Dantonio -- chief photo and video analyst of the Mutual UFO Network -- suggested the object was "a meteor captured on successive video frames."

HuffPost asked Dantonio, who creates special effects and is contracted by the U.S. Navy, Congress and the Joint Chiefs of Staff in Washington, to weigh in on this latest video.

"What I think is that this is not a likely fake. I think, for the moment, this is a genuine image capture," he told HuffPost in an email.

"This is a low light camera (which) allows the vulcanologists studying the footage to see any incandescence on the flank of the volcano in night shots. As such, any brighter lights that are captured will appear very bright, as the one planet/star indicates."

Dantonio points out that the camera created a time lapse video of still shots put together.

Kangaroo Sparks Tense Standoff With Florida Police

LACOOCHEE, Florida -- For 12 hours, Pasco County dispatchers received calls about a kangaroo on the loose in Lacoochee. Deputy Gene Smith thought it was a prank.

Then came the call at 6:45 a.m. on Sunday, June 2. The rambunctious 'roo was apparently approaching the area around U.S. 301.

"Sure enough, there was a kangaroo in the middle of the road," he says. In his 17 years of service, he says he's never responded to a call like that.

For hours, he, along with officers from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and Pasco County Sheriff's Office Agricultural Unit, tried to wrangle in the five foot, 200 pound kangaroo. Their mission: bring it back to safety without hurting it. Not even tranquilizers, though, did the trick.

Ukranian Family Shocked To Find Ferrett In Toilet

The critter was spotted sticking its head out of the commode by a brother and sister living in the Odessa region of Ukraine. Understandably freaked out by the encounter, the family decided to place a call to police.

Officers soon arrived at the home to remove the ferret from the residence. Thankfully, no one — including the animal — were harmed during the extraction.

“My brother and I were in the bathroom, and suddenly we saw something crawling out of the toilet. We both got scared. Mom came running, grabbed us, and closed the door,” six-year-old Zinaida Parfenteva explained.

By the time police and fire officials showed up at the family’s home, the ferret had already escaped from the toilet. The brother and sister said the animal found a stray towel on the floor and began to dry itself off.

Dumb Criminals: Woman Who Cheated On Welfare Caught By IRS After Price Is Right Appearance

Greenville, N.C. — A former Fayetteville postal carrier who was receiving worker's compensation payments after injuring herself on the job pleaded guilty to fraud in federal court Monday.

Cathy Wrench Cashwell's claim that she couldn't lift mail trays into a truck due to a 2004 on-the-job shoulder injury was called into question in September 2009 when she appeared on "The Price is Right" and spun the "big wheel" twice.

According to an indictment filed in September 2012, Cashwell "raised her left arm above her head and gripped the handle with her left hand." On a second spin, she "raised both arms above her head and gripped the same handle with both hands."

In August 2010, the indictment alleges, Cashwell and her husband went ziplining as part of a Carnival Cruise vacation. She was also seen lifting and carrying furniture and bags of groceries with both arms on two different occasions in 2011.

Federal investigators say Cashwell knowingly lied when she wrote on her worker's compensation paperwork in September 2011 that she couldn't stand, sit, kneel, squat, climb, bend, reach or grasp.

Nazi Dad At Center Of Custody Battle Wears Full Uniform To Court

Dressed in a Nazi uniform, Heath Campbell marched into a New Jersey courthouse to petition a family court judge to allow him to see his youngest son.

"I'm going to tell the judge, I love my children. I wanna be a father, let me be it," Campbell told NBC10 Monday before court proceedings. "Let me prove to the world that I am a good father."

The closed-door hearing at Hunterdon County Family Court in Flemington, N.J., was being held to determine whether the 40-year-old father of four, who gave his children Nazi-inspired names, could visit with his 2-year-old son Heinrich Hons Campbell.

Doctors Find Swollen Ovary In Hong Kong Man

Doctors realised the patient was female after they found the swelling came from a large cyst on an ovary, the Hong Kong Medical Journal reported.

The condition was the result of two rare genetic disorders.

The subject had Turner syndrome, which affects girls and women and results from a problem with the chromosomes, with characteristics including infertility and short stature.

But he also had congenital adrenal hyperplasia, increasing male hormones and making the patient, who had a beard and a “micropenis”, appear like a man.
