Trump appearance in Tallahassee

I'm not going to go into anything he said - mostly because I simply cannot listen to the man.

But it caused major traffic problems on the east side of Tallahassee - even if Republican votes at the closest early voting site just a couple of miles away were still less than half of the Democratic votes.

Local Trump supporters hoping to flip traditionally blue Leon County

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump took to the stage around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and spoke for about 40 minutes.

His visit to Tallahassee concluded a trip across the state that included stops in Doral and Sandford.

Leon County, a county known to vote mostly blue, did not stop Trump supporters from coming out in droves to see Trump.

Enthusiasm for Trump was at a fever pitch as thousands watched Trump at the Tallahassee Automobile Museum. A much welcomed sight for those looking to make a change in Washington.

Video and photos at link - including Trump with hay bales, something I never thought would be together: http://www.wctv.tv/content/news/Local-Trump-supporters-hoping-to-flip-traditionally-blue-Leon-County-398675921.html

The delusions some Trump supporters have! Leon County has twice the number of Democratic registered voters than Republican despite - or maybe because - of all the years of a Republican governor and Republican dominated legislature.

Fraud Squad - ready to stop voter fraud!

Also worth watching is:

Both videos are by SaveTheDay.vote:
We are a short-form digital production company dedicated to the idea that voting is a necessary and heroic act. That every voice in this wonderfully diverse nation should, and must, be heard. That the only thing that can save democracy is the act that defines it. We are committed to fighting the apathy, cynicism, and honest confusion that keeps citizens from using their vote. And to reminding an increasingly out-of-touch and compromised set of representatives that they are answerable to the people they were hired to serve.

Paid for by Save The Day PAC, www.savetheday.vote , and not authorized by any candidate or candidate’s committee.

Michelle Obama is giving another historic speech

Not sure where she is - Arizona? - but she is hitting another one out of the park!

Hitting Trump on how he doesn't people as what they are. Trumps vision "grounded in hopelessness and despair" - CNN banner right now.

No link - live on CNN. MSNBC had cut away from it.

ETA - now CNN cut away also. And the speech was in Arizona.

Hugh Hewitt brought up Norm Coleman and Dino Rossi

And talked about the elections they lost as if those were not legitimate.

I wasn't familiar with those two so I looked them up:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Washington_gubernatorial_election,_2004
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Senate_election_in_Minnesota,_2008

Both elections were contested and had a lot of contentious fighting over ballots. In both cases, ballots that had been 'lost' (Washington, 2004) or rejected (Minnesota, 2008) made the difference in the results. Neither election was illegitimate - though they might have been if those ballots had not been rediscovered or not found to be acceptable.

If this is what the Republicans consider to be 'rigged' elections, then the Democratic Party needs to be on alert. Allowing ballots to be lost as in Washington state - when absentee ballots were rejected because the signatures on the applications for them had not been scanned into the system for comparison - or not included in a recount of a close election because of questionable rejections is voter suppression.

The part the Republicans don't like about those two elections is that once all legitimate ballots were counted, the Democrats won. If the suppression of hundreds of absentee ballots in each state had been allowed, the Republicans would have won.

Every eligible voter should be allowed to vote and every ballot cast should be counted. Otherwise our elections are not legitimate!

Hugh Hewitt - "Donald went 14 out of 15 rounds"

"But he hit himself in the head and knocked himself out."

Just now on MSNBC.

Donald Trump said, "I've never bee so ashamed of this country."

Why aren't conservatives dragging him over the coals the way they did Michelle Obama in 2008 when she said, "For the first time in my adult life, I am really proud of my country because it feels like hope is finally making a comeback"?

After don't both statements equate some level of disappointment in the US? Of course, Michelle Obama's statement was in the context that she was proud that so many people were turning out to vote - but that is not the way the right wing twisted it.

On the other hand, Donald Trump has been saying for over a year now that they US is no longer great, that everything is wrong and now he's come right out and said he was ashamed of the country. Shouldn't that merit much more condemnation than Michelle Obama's pride in the voter turnout?

Why is the right wing ignoring Trump's claim - because he is THEIR candidate and nothing he has done or will do can be wrong in their deluded minds.

MSNBC just showed a new campaign ad from Clinton - The Final Meltdown!

With clips from news sources talking about the meltdown with Trump and the GOP, using music from"The Final Countdown" but with lyrics, "The Final Meltdown."

No link to a video. It's not on the Clinton YouTube channel yet. Probably not on MSNBC since it was just aired and had just been released.

Rasmussen just polled me - presidential race

Aside from who I was going to vote for in the presidential race - four way question - they wanted to know how I felt about the economy, if I owned a business, and if I had investments.

I'm in Florida, hope I help turn their next poll results BLUE!

A couple of notes about the Trump tax return from personal experience

Although I am not sure the losses were under the same rules - the time I am familiar with was in 1982, a lot earlier than Trump's 1995 return - here is my personal experience with carry back/forward rules:

In 1982 my husband and I had several small businesses. Although they were doing OK some things happened that threatened our cash flow. Ronald Reagan's IRS tightened the rules on writing off losses from "hobby" businesses against other income. The Florida state legislature passed a anti-paraphernalia law. A couple we had thought were friends stole a chunk of money from us.

My horse breeding business had been holding even but without right offs I could not maintain it. One of our major businesses was a head shop - while we joined the suit against the paraphernalia law, we could not afford to be arrested over the situation. Another business shared the store front and if we closed the head shop, it could not pay the rent. We lost money on the business that the "friends" stole money from us.

We had a third party company do an audit of our entire financial situation. The advice - close down the horse breeding business, close the head shop and any other business we did not want to personally work in full time. The second business in the store front could stay open if we didn't have any employees and if we were willing to work six days a week - it might have made a profit of $15,000a year. That was Plan A.

Plan B was to close all the businesses, sell off most of my broodmares and keep some personal horses, carry back our losses and get a big fat check from the IRS - enough money to restore our cash flow and take a breather while we though what to do next.

This was a no brainer - we got the advice in late November, had "Going out of Business" sales at the stores, bought out the lease on the store front, shut down our other businesses, and started selling mares. By December 31st we were no longer in business. I only had a few horses of my own. (A year or so later I began boarding other peoples' horses and that business continued until about 2000. I bred my horses as a hobby but not as a business.)

According to what one of the accountants told my husband the rules under which we could carry back the losses had been passed to benefit Ross Perot. Looking back at the history, EDS had lost a lot of money in the 1970s but when Ross Perot sold it about 1979 it was worth about a half billion dollars. Perot lobbied Congress to pass the carry forward provision. That meant when he sold the company, he could write off a lot of his gain in the sale of the company against his previous losses.

I don't know if this claim is true - it's too far back to find easily on the internet. When my husband heard the story, the sale of EDS was only a few years back, though, so the accountant could have been very aware of story.
