2 Million Dollars

That is the cost to the City of Florence, SC alone to clean up the debris from Hurricane Matthew.

If you drive down many streets, you see piles of huge logs in front of many houses. They look like forts. Every street seems to have varying sizes of piles of leaves and logs in front of a lot of places.
The city has been working constantly since the hurricane to clean this up. They have been trying to do this efficiently without busting the bank.

I have read and heard a lot about this and they seem to be doing a good job. It is a Herculean task.

Damn them for all their prior actions and I do, but who else is stepping up now to join them?

You can cast doubt on their reasons but taking this position is not without risk to them. They do not represent people who dislike Trump.

These are not the heroes we need but for now they seem to be all we have. That should scare the shit out of you.

I WILL call Trump voters racists.

I have read not to call them this or use other terms because they become defensive. However, I have found that a lot of my former friends and disowned relatives don't listen. No matter what I point out, they don't care or they rationalize it. However, if I call them racists many of them take great offense.
They listen.

I don't use the term because I don't mean it. I do. I use it to point out the vile people they are uniting with and the fact that they cannot get rid of this stain no matter what they say. They opened Pandora's Box all the way and out flew indelible ink with every evil.

I also point out that NOT ONE of them ever said a word about those vile people. They whine now but only after they are linked with them. I also tell the 'Christian' ones that they are really Leviticans who use Jesus as a hype man. In addition, if Egypt had had a wall, Jesus, Mary and Joseph would have been SOL with Herod after them.

Finally, I quote a revised version of a verse in the Bible that Jesus used when chasing the big money out of the temples; "Bite me!"

That Time I Almost Stabbed A Couple Of Rednecks Who SAw My Headwrap And Assumed I Was Muslim

It came as a surprise to everyone when I graduated from one of the top private schools in the country and, instead of attending college like most of my classmates did, joined the military.

I was an immigrant — my family came to America from Jamaica when I was 10 — and female children of immigrants are often taught by their parents that your life path is limited to three options:
1. Have a business that makes a lot of money
2. Go to college for a job that makes a lot of money
3. Marry someone who makes a lot of money

Simple right? The army fit none of those criteria. But I disliked everything about schools. I hated the pretentious kids at my school, I hated the cardboard cutout curriculum, and I especially hated the canned food they reheated and sold for five to ten dollars per day.

My decision was especially was off putting to my family because of the type of people and situations they thought I would be around. I wasn’t the most sheltered person, but I was a bit more privileged than the typical 18-year-old who chooses to join the army. Going from nuns and affluent stay at home moms to drill sergeants not-all-that-much-different than the drill sergeant in Full Metal Jacket was a bit of a culture shock. But I handled it

I am now going on my 6th year in the military. When I left my first duty station in Alaska, I changed from active duty to reserves. After my active duty discharge, I started wearing headwraps. Whether it was the bright and beautiful colors of the different cloths, or the fact that my ears were never again cold, I loved them. I wear them everywhere. (Also, I have to say that the headwrap changes the way men approach me on the street. Instead of “hey redbone” or “hey bitch” its “hey beautiful nubian sista.” Which I know is super, duper problematic, but that’s another topic for another day.)
