Batten down the hatches on the MS/AL coast

it's hitting here.

April 29, 2014

I am in terror of family members being in the path of a tornado

On Mon Apr 28, 2014, 08:39 PM an alert was sent on the following post:

I think you should look at your signature
http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=4883075

REASON FOR ALERT

This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.

ALERTER'S COMMENTS

This is not right. We can't accuse someone of being a goat fucker from conservative cave just because we don't like their opinion. This makes DU suck, big time. Actually read pinto's sig line, and then read what Aerows wrote. This should not stand if we want civility on DU.

JURY RESULTS

A randomly-selected Jury of DU members completed their review of this alert at Mon Apr 28, 2014, 08:48 PM, and voted 5-2 to HIDE IT.

Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #2 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #3 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: Over the top, we don't need this
Juror #4 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: What does that even mean? It sure implies a lot.
Juror #5 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: Aerows stepped way over the line with that one.
Juror #6 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #7 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Kind of a fart-in-church insult. Any worse and I would vote to hide.

CONSEQUENCES OF THIS DECISION

You will no longer be able to participate in this discussion thread, and you will not be able to start a new discussion thread in this forum until 9:48 PM. This hidden post has been added to your Transparency page.

IMPORTANT: Hidden posts remain on your Transparency Page for 90 days. If at any time your Transparency Page contains five or more hidden posts there are additional consequences: 1) your Transparency Page will be displayed and can be read by any logged-in member, 2) you will be unable to post until there are fewer than five hidden posts remaining on your Transparency Page, 3) if you are a forum or group Host and/or serving on the Malicious Intruder Removal Team (MIRT), you will lose those privileges.

And someone took exception to the fact that I pointed out a DUer's signature during a time of extreme stress and tragedy.

If this is what YOU want for DU, to ban a long term star member that volunteers but is undergoing tragedy from posting, you know what?

You deserve to have members leave this site. It cannot self moderate if you think bashing people who reporting tornadoes is worthy of mockery, or those enduring the loss of their homes worthy of humor, or wondering if your family member is part of the tragedy is such a degradation of the site it should be hidden.

I have family in this area, I am scared to death, and people being flip about it are cruel. DU is quickly becoming a cruel site, and I will no longer support it financially until it has new moderation.

Tom Tomorrow is incredibly prescient regarding the NSA

This was LONG before Snowden and President Obama's re-election.

What say you now, NSA enthusiasts? (and yes, I chose that world specifically instead of apologist).

Financial Jenga

Devoted to the rich. We are letting ourselves down because we are the backbone, the hard working people, but even we will topple when somebody pulls the wrong piece,

I don't know about you, but I've never longed for a person that was inexperienced for elevator repair, brain surgery or teaching the next generation of either. It's short term profit over long term gain and it is going to kill our nation. Corporations do it by firing people that know how to do the job, just so the stock price rises during the quarterlies. That is what is going to end our economy.

When you can't see past the quarterly and only reward those that make it look good, you aren't promoting healthy corporations, organizations or administrations - you are crippling them to make the top look good while destroying the foundation.

Financial Jenga can only last so long.D

For those that call Edward Snowden a Traitor

He would have been called one no matter what administration he revealed these violations against the Constitution.

You are correct. It would just depend on what party would be calling him "traitor." That, of course, depends under which administration he revealed the violations of the Constitution. You know it, I know it, everyone with two brain cells to rub together know it.

DU2 prior to January 20, 2009 was especially concerned about the surveillance state (I refuse to call it the security state because it offers no security and certainly fails to protect us against domestic terrorists and mass murderers). The archives are there for all to see.

Massive, invasive state surveillance has *NEVER* in the course of history *EVER* benefited the constituents and citizens of such a state of surveillance.

Explain it as an explosion of technological ability, rehash it as protection for the citizens, and you know what you get? The justifications made by every single government in history that did it. If you want to know where it leads, open a damn history book, and see how *they* were also threatened by a populace that knew more than they "should".

People scream technology like this is the first time humankind has ever made an advancement in communications. NO.

Again, open a history book. Go as far back as you like, then ask yourself "are these the same excuses, are these the same motives, and how did that turn out for the people?"

I dare you.

D:3 RoS is it just me

or does Westmarch strongly resemble the "Culling of Stratholme" dungeon? It's the one from WotLK. I ran that a bunch of times as a tank, got the dragon for timing for countless folks, and it just kind of reminds me of that.

Any other WoW players remember that dungeon and think Westmarch is similar?

Growing onions.

I picked up some bulbs to plant alone with the cucumbers and tomatoes. I live in the Deep South, not quite as Georgia, but good enough.

Here is my question - if you plant a bulb, how many onions do you get out of it? I'm sure it is a silly question, but as a novice I've hunted high and low for information.

I'm putting together a box to donate to a shelter

People need shoes, they need work clothes and they can always use socks.

The poor can always use an old suit for one reason or another, and they certainly can use fresh underwear.

Just a thought.
