'It has to stop': Georgia official calls on Trump to 'stop inspiring' death threats over election

Source: USA Today

Joey Garrison 11:26pm Dec. 1, 2020

WASHINGTON — A top election official with the Georgia Secretary of State's Office on Tuesday called on President Donald Trump to condemn and "stop inspiring" recent threats of violence as the state finishes a second recount of the presidential election.

"It has all gone too far," said Gabriel Sterling, Georgia's voting system implementation manager, raising his voice. "All of it."

Visibly angry, Sterling spent several minutes of an afternoon news conference describing threats targeting state election officials and workers. He said a 20-year-old tech employee in Gwinnett County received death threats and was made the subject of a noose image disseminated online Tuesday that read he should be "hung for treason."

"It has to stop. Mr. President, you have not condemned these actions or this language," Sterling said. "Senators, you have not condemned this language or these actions. This has to stop. We need you to step up. And if you're going to take a position of leadership, show some."

The senators Sterling referenced are Georgia's two Republican U.S. senators, David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler, who are running in runoff elections on Jan. 5 that could decide control of the Senate.

The video was great. He blamed Republican Senators also for not speaking up.

An attorney for the Trump campaign said the federal government's former top cybersecurity chief should be "shot" for describing the U.S. election as secure.

Joe diGenova condemned Christopher Krebs, former director of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, on Monday's episode of "The Howie Carr Show."

"That guy is a class A moron," diGenova said. "He should be drawn and quartered, taken out at dawn and shot."

Coronavirus updates: 50 Americans died every hour of November; Florida hits 1M cases; Pence says vaccine could be shipped in 2 weeks

The United States reported more than 4.4 million new coronavirus cases in November, far more than double any other month of the pandemic, a USA TODAY analysis of Johns Hopkins University data shows.

The numbers are startling. The total case count is nearly what the nation reported in August, September and October combined. An average rate of 99 cases were reported every minute through the month. In November alone, one of every 22 North Dakota residents tested positive. In South Dakota, it was one of 26; Wyoming, one of 29; Iowa, one of 31.

The U.S. also reported 36,918 deaths in November, a toll higher than all months but April and May. The fatalities totaled more people than the U.S. lost in the entirety of the Korean War. On average, 50 Americans died every hour.

In South Dakota, North Dakota and Illinois, more than 1 of every 1,000 residents has now died of COVID-19.

Here's what to know Tuesday:

Kayleigh McEnany Is Being Mocked Over Her 'Weird And Pointless' Lie About An All-Female Press Team

Kayleigh McEnany Is Being Mocked Over Her ‘Weird And Pointless’ Lie About An All-Female Press Team

Kayleigh McEnany is a woman. She’s also the latest in a string of press secretaries to serve Trump over the course of his embattled presidency, but for some reason, she’s pretty upset that President-Elect Joe Biden is getting kudos for hiring an all-female press staff ahead of next year’s inauguration. So upset, in fact, that McEnany has taken to Twitter to rant about coverage of Biden’s historic appointing and, weirdly, erase the existence of her male colleagues in the process.

It all started Sunday evening when McEnany became enraged at a Washington Post article that lauded Biden’s all-female communications team. McEnany took to Twitter to refute the article’s claim that Biden’s would be the first female-only press team, led by former Obama White House communications director Jen Psaki.

And look, touting diverse hiring practices and bragging about giving women jobs they’re more than qualified for isn’t that great a look for anyone, but what’s worse is blatantly lying about your hiring practices and completely sweeping your male colleagues under the rug in a display of shallow feminism. This is what McEnany did when she maintained that Trump’s White House press team was also made up entirely of women. Unfortunately for her, former Trump advisor Kellyanne Conway’s husband, George Conway, came to correct her and he brought receipts. .......................................
