Talk to Trump, where he has refused to set an example and now over 120,000 Americans have died due to that incompetence.

Published 1 min ago on June 30, 2020

A Massachusetts man was charged with assault after punching an elderly restaurant owner in a dispute over face masks.

Angel Gomez got into an argument with employees at George’s Pizza in Provincetown while out with family members Saturday night, and 81-year-old owner George Kraniotakis came from behind the counter and got in the younger man’s face, reported the Cape Cod Times.

“They weren’t wearing their masks when we asked them to,” said Francine Kraniotakis, the owner’s daughter. “My dad comes around and asks them to sit down and put on their masks. The guy said something like, ‘We don’t want to.’”

She said her father told the 27-year-old Gomez to pull up his mask from below his chin or leave, and the younger man struck him.............................

German officials were so alarmed by Trump's conversations with Angela Merkel that they took extra steps to make sure they stayed secret, according to a CNN report

President Donald Trump's phone conversations with German Chancellor Angela Merkel were "so unusual" that German officials were prompted to keep them under wraps, CNN reported Monday.

Sources told CNN that Trump disparaged Merkel in a "very aggressive" manner, calling her "stupid," and accusing her of "being in the pocket of the Russians."

"He's toughest [in the phone calls] with those he looks at as weaklings and weakest with the ones he ought to be tough with," a source told CNN.

Though extraordinary measures were taken in response to Trump's conversations with Merkel, the German chancellor took the US president's comments "like water off a duck's back," a source told CNN.

..........................

The group of officials assigned to monitor Merkel's calls with Trump also diminished in size, leaving "just a small circle of people who are involved and the reason, the main reason, is that they are indeed problematic," a German official told CNN...................

Coronavirus: EU to allow in visitors from 14 'safe' countries

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-53222356#

The EU has named 14 countries whose citizens are deemed "safe" to be let in from 1 July, despite the pandemic - but the US, Brazil and China are excluded.

Those named include Australia, Canada, Japan, Morocco and South Korea.

The EU is ready to add China if the Chinese government offers a reciprocal deal for EU travellers, diplomats say.

EU border controls have been lifted for EU citizens travelling inside the bloc. Rules for UK travellers are covered separately in the Brexit negotiations.

UK nationals are still to be treated in the same way as EU citizens until the end of the Brexit transition period on 31 December. Therefore, during that time UK nationals and their family members are exempt from the temporary travel restriction.

Missouri governor won't appeal ruling favoring abortion provider

JEFFERSON CITY — Missouri Gov. Mike Parson will not contest a high-profile loss in his administration’s bid to shut down the state’s lone abortion provider.

In a statement from the Republican’s top health official, the administration said its decision to issue an operating license last week to Planned Parenthood’s St. Louis clinic makes an appeal of his yearlong effort to close the facility unneeded.

Republican Attorney General Eric Schmitt’s office, which handled the case, concurred.

“The Department of Health and Senior Services has made it clear that they are not interested in pursuing this further since a new license has been issued and the issue is moot, therefore no further action will be taken,” said spokesman Chris Nuelle............................

Intelligence on Russian bounty plot was included in the President's Daily Brief earlier this year, source says

By Barbara Starr, CNN Pentagon Correspondent Updated 7:19 PM ET, Mon June 29, 2020

(CNN)The intelligence that assessed there was an effort by a Russian military intelligence unit to pay the Taliban to kill US soldiers was included in one of President Donald Trump's daily briefings on intelligence matters sometime in the spring, according to a US official with direct knowledge of the latest information.

That assessment, the source said, was backed up by "several pieces of information" that supported the view that there was an effort by the Russian intelligence unit -- the GRU -- to pay bounties to kill US soldiers, including interrogation of Taliban detainees and electronic eavesdropping. The source said there was some other information that did not corroborate this view but said, nonetheless, '"This was a big deal. When it's about US troops you go after it 100%, with everything you got."

Trump is not known to fully or regularly read the President's Daily Brief, something that is well-known within the White House.
The information was serious enough the National Security Council staff held a meeting during the spring to discuss "possible response options," including sanctions, if the intelligence developed to the point it was deemed ready to take to the President for any possible action, the official said......................................

Susan Collins says she had no idea Brett Kavanaugh was so anti-choice

Source: raw story

Published 6 mins ago on June 29, 2020

After being shredded online Monday, Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) was trying to clean up her vote to support anti-choice justice Brett Kavanaugh for the Supreme Court. Collins, who has long claimed to be pro-choice, said that she believed Kavanaugh when he lied to her saying that he would uphold all legal precedent for abortion cases.

............................

Kavanaugh, however, voted for the law to be upheld, flying in the face of his promise to Collins.

In a statement Monday afternoon, Collins claimed, “Kavanaugh gave no indication in his dissenting opinion that he supports overturning Roe.” It ignores the “precedent” of abortion cases other than Roe that Kavanaugh promised he would uphold.

Women’s rights group tried to tell Collins that Kavanaugh would be an anti-choice judge, but she refused to believe them. She’s now in the race for her political life for her votes being so far outside the mainstream of Maine voters.
