Singer/guitarist Col. Bruce Hampton, the Aquarium Rescue Unit founder who grew into a godfather of the modern jamband scene, passed away earlier this morning. He was 70.

A staple of the Southeast music scene, Hampton—who celebrated his birthday on April 30—collapsed onstage while performing “Turn on Your Lovelight” with an all-star cast a Atlanta’s Fox Theatre at the end of his own tribute show, “Hampton 70.” The evening featured a multi-generational cast, including: Widespread Panic’s John Bell, Dave Schools, Duane Trucks and Jimmy Herring, Phish’s Jon Fishman, R.E.M’s Peter Buck, Karl Denson, Leftover Salmon’s Drew Emmitt, Rev. Jeff Mosier, Warren Haynes, Drivin’ N Cryin’ frontman Kevn Kinney, Johnny Knapp, Chuck Leavell, T. Hardy Morris, Brandon Niederauer, John Popper, Frank Zappa associate Denny Walley, Oliver Wood, actor Billy Bob Thornton, Cy Young winner Jake Peavy and others. The breathe of performers spoke to Hampton’s far-reaching influence.

After Hampton passed out, the Fox’s curtain was pulled closed and the singer/guitarist was rushed to Atlanta’s Crawford Long Hospital. An official announcement states, “After collapsing on stage surrounded by his friends, family, fans and the people he loved Col. Bruce Hampton has passed away. The family is asking for respect and privacy at this difficult time.”

Hampton’s onetime bandmate Mosier was one of the first musicians to confirm his passing, writing: “I feel so blessed to have been there tonight and be a part of the greatest gathering of friends and loved ones. I’ve never seen Bruce happier. I’ve never been sadder. I’ve dreaded this day for years, but could have never imagined a more joyful departure. I feel so lost.” Both Tedeschi Trucks Band and Widespread Panic shared his families words shortly after his death was confirmed.

Ivanka Trump has revealed in a new book that the pressures of her father’s presidential election campaign were such that she went into “survival mode” and did not have time for massages or meditation.

Trump, who has been appointed as a White House adviser by President Donald Trump and founded an eponymous fashion business, said she wrote the book, Women Who Work , because she wanted to "debunk the superwoman myth."

"During extremely high-capacity times, like during the campaign, I went into survival mode: I worked and I was with my family; I didn’t do much else," Trump writes, according to an excerpt published by Fortune .

"Honestly, I wasn’t treating myself to a massage or making much time for self-care. I wish I could have awoken early to meditate for 20 minutes and I would have loved to catch up with the friends I hadn’t seen in three months, but there just wasn’t enough time in the day," she continues.

Trump rants to Fox about North Korea: "Nobody's safe, I mean, who's safe? Were probably not safe"

During an interview with Fox News host Eric Bolling, Trump opined on the danger facing U.S. troops stationed in South Korea.

“Nobody’s safe,” the president said. “I mean, who’s safe? The guy’s [Kim Jong-un] got nuclear weapons. I’d like to say they’re very safe. These are great brave soldiers, these are great brave troops and they know the situation. We have 28,000 troops on the line and they’re right there.”

“And so nobody’s safe,” Trump added. “We’re probably not safe over here.”

“If he gets long-range missiles, we’re not safe either.”

"He likes playing on his soccer team in New York, they're all of his friends."

Trump laments family’s heavy burden, criticism from media

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2017/apr/30/donald-trumps-family-bears-burden-president-says/

“There is no question, it is a big burden on the family,” the president said in an Oval Office session.

Since the inauguration, Mrs. Trump has been criticized for just about everything, including her glamorous official portrait and her decision to live primarily in New York City until Barron finishes the school year.

“She’s been terribly abused by the press, really unfairly,” the president said. “She’s a high-quality person. She’s been amazing for the country.”

“I have a son who’s a very young boy — he just turned 11,” Mr. Trump said. “He’ll be taken away from his school and be put into a brand-new school. He likes playing on his soccer team in New York, they’re all of his friends, and you know he’ll be taken away from that team. We didn’t want to do it in the middle of a season.”

"Amazing for the country"

It reportedly costs the New York Police Department between $127,000 and $146,000 a day to protect the first lady and her son, and the Secret Service last month requested an additional $60 million in funding to protect the president and his family.
