'I didn't say that': GOP senator contradicts Trump after president posts false quote

By David Edwards
Published May 12, 2026 3:37 PM ET

Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) said that President Donald Trump had used a false quote to push a baseless claim about former President Barack Obama making money off of his signature health care legislation.

In a Truth Social post on Monday night, Trump shared the claim that Kennedy was "now publicly demanding that Barack Hussein Obama return $120 million that he allegedly earned through ownership related to 'Obamacare.'"

"He allocated money under his own laws using taxpayer-generated prestige," the fake quote said. "There's nothing ethical or legal about this."

'The hood is off': Internet explodes over GOP lawmaker's 'brazenly racist' interview

By Matthew Chapman
Published May 11, 2026 7:51 PM ET

Rep. Jen Kiggans (R-VA), already one of the GOP's most vulnerable incumbents even after state courts struck down efforts to redraw her district to favor Democrats, landed in hot water on Monday after a clip went viral of her agreeing with a right-wing talk radio host telling Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) to "get your cotton-picking hands off of Virginia" — a common colloquial phrase, but one with a deeply charged double meaning given that Jeffries is Black.

The moment immediately brought her under fire on social media, including from some fellow members of Congress.

"The hood is off," wrote Rep. Grace Meng (D-NY). "Apologize and get out or you will be shown the door in November.

I can't wait for her to fill out an application for a job ..................she is in a different ball game when it comes to being a public figure..............usually when you get fired the company cannot ask why you were fired, but cause is still cause ........and her remarks are public.............no excuse can cover that simple fact

Trump admin hit with lawsuit after diverting $100M in taxpayer funds without approval

As the 250th anniversary of the United States’ independence approaches, a government watchdog group is warning that the Trump administration has refused to release key documents regarding President Donald Trump’s Freedom 250 project, in which the White House has partnered with corporations including Palantir and ExxonMobil to organize what it’s called “a celebration of America like no other.”

Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility (PEER) filed a lawsuit Monday against the Department of Interior (DOI) in the US District Court for the District of Columbia on Tuesday, more than two months after the group filed multiple Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests regarding the funding of the “controversial and secretive” Freedom 250 initiative.

As the agency that oversees the National Parks Service, DOI and Interior Secretary Doug Burgum are playing a major role in the organization of Freedom 250, with the celebration including projects like the National Garden of American Heroes, the proposed Freedom 250 Grand Prix at the National Mall, and the proposed Independence Arch.

'Yeah, so what?' Elites openly shrug at working-class pain caused by Trump

By Brad Reed, Common Dreams

Even as President Donald Trump’s war with Iran and tariffs on foreign goods are hammering working-class Americans, a new report shows that members of the US elite have never had it better.

As The Financial Times reported on Thursday, attendees at the annual Milken Institute conference in Beverly Hills this week were living in “blissful ignorance” of the economic pain hitting workers in the US and around the world.

“People are glossing over the war with Iran,” an anonymous private credit firm executive told The Financial Times. “They’ve become desensitized to it. For some reason, people are saying, ‘Yeah, so what?’”

-snip-
"told The Financial Times that, while people at the conference were vaguely aware of the suffering of middle-class and working-class Americans, “at the end of the day, everyone’s focused on their own investment portfolios, especially here.”

Trump's steep global tariff dealt severe court blow

By Matthew Chapman
Published May 7, 2026 5:40 PM ET

President Donald Trump got yet another body blow to his trade agenda on Thursday, as a pair of federal judges ruled his 10 percent global tariff illegal.

"In a split ruling, the Court of International Trade found that Mr. Trump had wrongly invoked a decades-old trade law when he applied those duties in February, almost immediately after his last set of punishing tariffs was struck down by the Supreme Court," reported The New York Times.

The prior set of "reciprocal" tariffs had been implemented under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act. However, the Supreme Court determined that the law doesn't authorize the president to unilaterally declare new tariffs without an act of Congress.

MAGA rep accused of burning ex-wife -- a senator's daughter -- with pot of boiling water

By Bennito L. Kelty

A Trump-endorsed congressman has been accused of beating his ex-wife, who's the daughter of a Republican senator, and even hurling a pot of boiling water at her, according to new reports.

"Ohio Republican Congressman Max Miller is accused of years of document physical abuse against his ex-wife, Emily Moreno, the daughter of Ohio Senator Bernie Moreno," the Daily Mail reported on Thursday, citing court filings and three sources.

Trump endorsed Miller for an uncontested Ohio primary race a few days before Moreno came forward with allegations, according to the Daily Mail. Miller, who's been in Congress since 2023, went through a nasty divorce with his ex-wife and was accused earlier in the year of child abuse.

Special counsel appointed to probe Trump DOJ lawyer accused of lying to judge

By Matthew Chapman
Published May 7, 2026 5:29 PM ET

Federal judges in Rhode Island have appointed a special counsel to investigate a Justice Department lawyer, local U.S. Attorney civil division head Kevin Bolan, for lying to, and subsequently about, a judge in that district.

This follows extensive reporting that the administration withheld critical information about a potentially dangerous immigration detainee, to trick that judge into releasing him from custody — all so the Trump administration could attack the judge for it.

"Acting on advice from the Homeland Security Department, Bolan had withheld information from Judge Melissa R. DuBose that a detainee was wanted for homicide overseas," noted The New York Times, Mattathias Schwartz. "After DuBose ordered that the detainee, an undocumented immigrant, be released on bond, the department publicly attacked her as an 'activist Biden judge' for releasing someone 'wanted for murder,' the very information that they had instructed Bolan to hold back."

So if they told him to jump off a cliff he would do it..............this seems right out the movie the Godfather..............
