Pier pressure: more than 1,000 sea lions assemble at San Francisco dockside

More than 1,000 sea lions have gathered at San Francisco’s Pier 39 this spring, the largest herd in at least 15 years.

Mounds of floppy, delightfully ungraceful marine mammals have plopped themselves on to rafts along the city’s pier, displaying themselves to the thousands of tourists who pass by the area each day.

According to the staff at the pier, the gathering this year has been attracted to a feast of anchovies in the bay. “With a steady food supply from a large school of anchovy, the sea lions are extra active!” the pier tweeted from its official account this week.

A Republican candidate from West Virginia is seeking higher office based on his participation in the attack on the Capitol on Jan. 6.

Derrick Evans told right-wing nationalist Steve Bannon that voters were flocking to him after he served 90 days in prison after pleading guilty to felony civil disorder charges. Evans is challenging Rep. Carol Miller (R-WV) in the Republican primary.

"As rich people say it, they say, hey, maybe a guy like Derrick Evans, maybe he, with his common sense, maybe he is the guy to go down and represent our real values in the nation's capital," Bannon explained.

Trump lawyer now the 'focus of his wrath' for being 'insufficiently aggressive': report

Former President Donald Trump is reportedly very displeased that the attorney representing him in his hush-money trial isn't being belligerent enough in court.

The New York Times reports that attorney Todd Blanche has in recent days become "the focus" of Trump's "episodic wrath" over the hush-money trial, in which he stands accused of falsifying business records to cover up payments made to adult film star Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 presidential election.

In particular, the Times reports that Trump has been venting in phone calls that Blanche is being "insufficiently aggressive" in his handling of the case.

It’s a two-minute video that Trump posted to his Truth Social account just prior to the third anniversary of the January 6 insurrection. Called “God Made Trump,” the campaign spot is brazenly messianic in tone and substance alike, directly paraphrasing the “So God Made a Farmer” speech made famous by the conservative radio personality Paul Harvey. “On June 14, 1946, God looked down on his planned paradise and said, ‘I need a caretaker,’” a Harveyesque narrator, no doubt manipulated by AI, announces at the outset. “I need somebody with arms strong enough to wrestle the deep state and yet gentle enough to deliver his own grandchild…. I need somebody who can shape an ax, but wield a sword”—here the video shows footage of Trump brandishing a scimitar among a group of Saudi leaders. The narration invokes the wonder-working powers of petroleum yet remains biblically tinged, with Trump as a figure “who can make money from the tar of the sand, turn liquid to gold.”

Most GOP senators have fallen in line with Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign to return to the White House, starting from the top with Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. They’re with him despite everything, including Jan. 6 when he unleashed a mob on the Capitol that threatened their physical safety, if not their lives.

But they are hanging on to the pretense that they’ll be able to constrain him by continuing to refuse to nuke the filibuster for him, something Trump demanded when he was in the White House.

Axios reports that they “are locking arms to defend the filibuster,” pointing out that both senators vying to replace McConnell as leader when he steps down next year—John Cornyn of Texas and John Thune of South Dakota—continue to defend the filibuster as a Senate institution needing to be maintained.

'A national disgrace': Ex-DOJ prosecutor goes off on the Supreme Court's immunity hearing

During an appearance on MSNBC's "The Weekend," former Department of Justice white-collar crime prosecutor Ankush Khardori went on a furious rant about the conduct of the conservative Supreme Court justices who took part in Donald Trump's presidential immunity hearing.

Khardori, who now provids legal commentary for Politico, wasted no time when asked about the line of questioning of the jurists , several of whom seem to have no problems with letting Trump get away with fomenting a coup on Jan. 6.

After co-host Symone Sanders-Townsend called what she heard on Thursday "insane," the former prosecutor agreed and piled on.

Russian Mother Sends Her Youngest Son Off To War For New Roof

Zhanna Polupanova bought a new apartment with her bereavement money when her first son came home in a coffin from Ukraine. But now she needs a new roof for her country house.

If you look closely, you'll notice that Zhanna Polupanova is wearing a sweatshirt with the English words "Follow Your Dreams." Apparently, hers includes a new roof for her modest house in the country, which with any luck will be repaired with what the Russians call "coffin money." Zhanna also rather cold-bloodedly says she does not feel sympathy for her sons going to war in Ukraine as they are meant to serve the Motherland. That's what they're for.

A mother from the Altai region of the Russian Federation sent her son to the war in Ukraine to fix the roof. The son, of course, was denazified, but the roof of the house was never repaired. Zhanna Polupanova bought an apartment to compensate for the death of her eldest son, but the thought of the thinning roof in the village house did not let her go. Therefore, she decided to send her second and last son to die in “her own” and bring money to the family.
