Healthcare is the most tenable (populist) strategy for midterms and 2020

This may sound simplistic, but simple is what we need. Russiagate is not gaining any sort of traction with the right. In fact, I would go so far as to say it creates more of a barrier to those who would otherwise support a Democrat healthcare plan.

Furthermore, this populism that tRump ran on became a sticking point even for the left. We would not have had this b.s. discussion about "elitism" if it hadn't been for the right wing narrative about caring for the poor and middle class average Joe (please, let's not start arguing that again! I include it here merely as reference to how compelling the rethug narrative was). However, as many, many poor and middle class average Joes have seen in the last few months, that populist rhetoric was a blatant lie. We need to dwell on that lie, bring it to the surface and discuss it at length as a means to turn voters toward Democrat candidates next year.

Perhaps this could be a wedge issue that drives more voters into the light. While I am certainly not advocating for extending an olive branch to deplorables, some might come to realize how corrupt the right is on their own. At the very least, focusing on healthcare will motivate voters more than any other issue.

What I hate about tRump in Saudi

I lived in Dhahran Saudi Arabia for two years, so I know a little about the culture. Arabs are the single most genuinely welcoming people on the planet. Period. If you are their guest, they will do anything to make you comfortable and happy. You will receive drinks and something to eat within ten minutes of entering their home. You will be welcome to stay as long as you want. If you admire one of their possessions, it is yours. They truly honor their guests, no matter what.

That is what irritates me about tRump being there. He is so utterly unworthy of their hospitality it makes me sick. He was given the Collar of Abdulaziz Al Saud, something he does not come close to deserving (but he is their guest). He was given a big show with the sword dance (because he is their guest). Did you notice that immediately after disembarking AF1 both he and Melania were given bouquets (because guests are appreciated). Ivanka and Melania get to walk around without covering their heads (because a guest should not be embarrassed by being told they are doing something impolite).

Donnie is an asshole who derides Arab culture, yet he is reveling in their hospitality. Make no mistake, they are treating him like royalty, and he is loving it 100%. But he will leave Saudi without having gained any appreciation for that culture. He will still look down on them and believe they treated him that way because he is special.

I've Decided What "Deep State" Means to The Right

Deep State = any political or military element actively engaged in protecting the Constitution against a plutocracy/kleptocracy/autocracy and exposing said "'ocracy" for what it truly is.

The right has coopted the term from general political parlance where it means something like "political or military agents working to secretly guide the government along their own agenda". They have kept the nefarious connotations of secrecy and manipulation, but they've made the term applicable only to left wing agenda. In fact, they've placed all patriotic acts by left wingers who seek to expose them under this term in order that it may carry those nefarious connotations.

I do NOT have a problem with the existence of a deep state as defined in my first two lines (ie what it has come to mean for the right). What I do have a problem with is the use of the term by the right to caste these left wing patriotic acts in a negative light (nefarious connotation). It is just another example of the right directing the narrative. In this case, it's the right choosing the meaning of the words they use to write the narrative.

So what is the answer? One word: Transparency. Sure, FBI agents cannot come forward with highly classified material and hand it over directly to the NYT with permission to publish their name along with the details of the reports. However, we ought to be able to see the salient parts of Comey's memos, those bits that truly damn tRump. We need to stop pussy footing around and have some material made public!

Sorry, but Kushner is NOT orthodox Jewish

What orthodox rabbi gives dispensation to travel on Shabbat?

Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner fly to Saudi Arabia - on Shabbat: http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/229870

While the couple observe the Sabbath and ordinarily do not travel from Friday evening till Saturday night, they have in the past received special rabbinic dispensation to be transported on the Sabbath, though still refraining from driving themselves.

A White House official confirmed to Politico that Kushner and Ivanka Trump would be traveling with the President on Friday, and that they had received dispensation from a rabbi after consulting him about the trip. The official did not name which rabbi had given the couple permission to travel.

Did the same rabbi give him permission to eat kid boiled in its mother's milk when he's in Saudi? What a load of crap!

NYT obit for Ailes sounds like it was written by a DUer

Roger Ailes: The Man Who Mined a Divided America

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/18/business/media/roger-ailes-jim-rutenberg.html

Before Donald Trump rode the anger of forgotten (white) America to an “America First” presidency, before Breitbart News became a “platform for the alt-right” and before there were “alternative facts” and dueling versions of reality, Roger Ailes saw a divided country but an undivided news media. And he set out to change it.

Empowered by Rupert Murdoch, who was intent on upending the traditional news media, Mr. Ailes built a network, the Fox News Channel, that would speak to and for those Americans he said were being ignored and disrespected. They were the people who went to Friendly’s for milkshakes, flew the American flag on their car antennas and didn’t see much point in trying to “understand” America’s enemies.

His network would load its prime-time slots with opinionated talk-radio-style personalities while presenting news with an approach he called “fair and balanced,” an indictment of the rest of the news media as excessively liberal. He implicitly injected the news with politics — and set Fox to the right of its rivals — even as he professed to be doing the opposite.

Senior member of Trump team said to tell Israelis: Western Wall is not your territory

link: http://www.timesofisrael.com/senior-member-of-trump-team-said-to-tell-israelis-western-wall-is-not-your-territory/

In a bitter diplomatic incident, a senior member of the US delegation making preparations for Donald Trump’s visit to Israel next week angrily rejected a request that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accompany the president when he visits the Western Wall, and then sniped at his Israeli counterparts that the Western Wall is “not your territory. It’s part of the West Bank,” Israeli television reported on Monday night.

An official at the Prime Minister’s Office confirmed the Channel 2 report, telling the Times of Israel that Israeli officials were “shocked” by the comments and have asked the Trump administration about the incident.

The official said that Netanyahu is certain that the comment does not reflect President Trump’s policy.
