Sitting in on rehearsal today with the ladies son and father

They are a trio but today We will be sitting in with them. And she teaches our son on guitar as she graduated from string program from college. As they want to fill out the sound on several originals that they been tossing out at the brew pub. My motto have tokai Les Paul reborn will travel. Today they will be recording originals on lap top way over my head modern technology and somehow our son and our guitars will be recorded onto lap top they want to send these recordings to a producer. Now our thirteen year old is up to speed on this modern technology as he and dad have been jamming to these ladies songs.

As I sit here and drink coffee I am thinking back to when I was young maybe our sons age. And my one brother and I would record our originals on a cassette recorder. We had dreams we were going to be the Appalachian coal field blues answer to music. We had visions of touring the world taking our music to the people. I ended up being a husband a father a union truck driver I smile as I sit and think of those moments of our youth.

Beware a ramble Sat and talked with my brother in a dream he passed away in 89

I dreamt of him last night he still looks the same as I remember him before he passed. Tall and lanky I enjoy these dreams when he comes to me, last night I introduced him to our two grandsons and he held them and kissed the boys I tell him that your son is doing well he looks like you still single, My brother tells me Your doing ok I’m happy for you he told me ,and the kids and grandchildren came for a visit yesterday. We were twins my mother often says I know what your brother would look like today as she looks at me. She says you went gray with hair early he probably would have as well tall and thin and still have chicken chest and legs my mother says, She laughs and tells me your brother and your father would be like us with today’s administration.

Perhaps it was talking with my mother yesterday ,I dropped her gallon of wine off at nursing home. Every time how much do I owe you boy for the wine as she goes for her purse. Not a dime mom don’t worry about it you wanna play 500 sure mom deal em. How’s the no booze medicine working what’s it called naltrexone mom it’s working fine. Mind if I pour a glass no mom go ahead she is a piece of work my mother. She is a mother of six boys five of us still walking around.

Growing up we were all tight still tight today. My brother passed away from motorcycle accident booze and foolishness of youth he did it to himself. I left for benning in 84 after graduation and he went to the steel mill where our father worked. Because he and his high school sweetheart were having a baby and a shotgun wedding after the baby was born. She didn’t wanna be pregnant in her wedding photos I smile now the vanity of youth. And today I look at my brothers son I see my brother I love that kid well he is a thirty four year old man today.

After the army I went to work as union dock man eventually got my third class license now cdl . But life was cool we had a young daughter my wife was going to college. I think I was making maybe 16$ hour with all the overtime you wanted I think I was averaging around 600$ a week in 87 with overtime. We had a mortgage through the GI bill of 45.000 $ wow then that was huge to me. It was a Victorian home built in 1912 in western Pennsylvania.

And we were doing ok we were comfortable, we would meet my brothers on Saturday morning after third shift at the bar and knock em down. Head to the parking lot to fire up some weed we would walk home and continue the party. That was what we knew our father was the same. Although by 87 our old man was sober and getting rid of his demons from Vietnam. Our father would say to us I’m sorry for the way I was when you boys were young. Perhaps that is why I always tried to be a attentive father and openly loving to our children. And I was never a cruel or violent drunk but I have realized I was neglecting towards our children by checking out on drunks.

I think it was around thanksgiving 88 we were at my house because my one brother discharged from army engineers. We all got off work my wife drove to her parents with our daughter to spend thanksgiving. And two of my brothers and a friend of ours were sitting at kitchen table drinking beers early morning and hitting a bong. My place because my wife and daughter were away and we always would smoke outside away from our children. And our father stopped by hey dad and he was making a cup of sanka and said laughing, you all just a bunch of hillbilly’s on Pabst and weed. I need you guys to be straight Thursday for thanksgiving dinner ok fellas I don’t wanna hear it from your mom yea dad no problem.

Found a new barber she is progressive

I dropped my old barber as he is a magat. So a woman my wife works with suggested this woman who has a beauty salon. And she is definitely worth it I’d sooner support democratic businesses than those who vote for kgop. And I have gone back to short hair after decades of ponytail and long hair. And do we bitch about this administration and his enabling gop.

We say the boog is a stalker

I like to cuddle a boy man boog says. in listening to our son this morning. Who fell asleep and slept on the couch last night. He was telling me dad I fell asleep and boog climbs up on couch and lays down on me. So I moved to the other couch for room and the chocolate lab cuddler followed him to the other couch. Ok boy now we will cuddle on this couch and he started snoring so nobody sleeps alone here between the boog and our golden retriever cuddle dogs are always available.

I met a keeper other day a former infantry vet

He is 44 a former airborne infantry vet we share threads of life. Benning osut infantry then jump school then 82nd, we both attended EIB program and were awarded the badge. we’re both husbands fathers union teamsters. We’re going be on same run and stay in same hotel definitely eat together and run together. I’m even going to drag my cb so we can shoot the breeze on our way to buffalo . But after meeting we have become instant friends because of the threads we share in life.

Our differences are quite though as he fought war on terror has a CIB as well was wounded and medical retired. He attended the RANGER course at benning a great leadership course where as I just wanted to get my 3 years over with. After I busted my ankle and was taken off jump status and sent to leg land. Perhaps if I never broke my ankle i was planning on making army career I loved the airborne infantry community it was a great place for a 18 year old kid we were always going somewhere .

But I have no regrets as I met my wife and she gave us five children and even puts up with my mentally defective chocolate lab. But in this ramble it is always nice to meet a brother a keeper. He asked me if I wanna stop have beer Saturday I explained my naltrexone intake for alcoholism and he instantly replied. I got you bro I’ll never ask you again I tell nobody at work about naltrexone but a former brother he understands just that quality of a person. That you find in former vets a maturity even though we’re both aggravaters and mentally were probably still around the age of 17.

My sons guitar teacher she is awesome a ramble 4 cups coffee so far

She came to dinner yesterday with her Japan Stratocaster in hand. And we spent the afternoon jamming why I even sent her home with tomato sauce our neighbor gives us and vegetables we scored at farmers market and sausages and meatballs and spaghetti I made.

She is going to law school and I met her through friends of ours she rents a apartment from. Awhile back She needed work done on her strat and cash is tight for her so they sent her my way. Because I charge free , and that day she came and opened up her guitar case I was surprised to see a made in Japan strat a Greco ,as I collect mij guitars discovered them as kid in army west Germany.

I asked her where she got this beautiful guitar and she said her father bought it for her when she was twelve. Your father loves you young lady and has good taste I replied. Then I started showing her my collection of Japan Les Paul’s and strats. And a friendship was born that day between her and my wife and I. One reason she is far from home and she is our youngest daughters age and two we share a passion for exploring the fretboard. 43 years I been exploring the fretboard and I’m always open to learning.

And she started giving lessons as she graduated from college on string program as a cellists and decided this does not pay the bills. And decided to go back to law school, and so I decided to have our son become a student of hers because this child she is a natural on guitar. At 52 why I even sat in with her band at local brew pub after that all the young kids thought hey this old hippie is ok, in the pub that night that was pre naltrexone for my alcoholism.

Sunday was awesome we jammed as she is teaching our son now alternative tunings we were in open G yesterday so our son tossed out sister luck by the Crowe’s hold on son shine. Dad goes and finds sister luck on computer and we jam along with it. And after we jammed tossing out hammer Ons or just licks we all sat down for a spaghetti dinner it was a nice day.
