Bernie Moreno wins Ohio Senate Republican primary, setting up high-stakes battle in November

Source: USA Today

Businessman Bernie Moreno will face Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, this fall after winning Ohio’s combative Republican U.S. Senate primary on Tuesday.

He defeated state Sen. Matt Dolan and Secretary of State Frank LaRose in a contest that pitted the GOP’s old guard against allies of former President Donald Trump.

Results are unofficial until the votes are canvassed after election day.

Tuesday's election concluded a tight race that became increasingly vicious in its final weeks. The candidates and their allies spent millions of dollars to spar on the airwaves as they clamored for voters’ support. Most attacks centered around the candidates’ conservative credentials and whether they’d have Trump’s back if he’s reelected in November.

Supreme Court allows Texas to enforce immigration law

Source: NBC News

WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court on Tuesday allowed Texas to enforce a contentious new law that gives local police the power to arrest migrants.

The conservative-majority court, with three liberal justices dissenting, rejected an emergency request by the Biden administration, which said states have no authority to legislate on immigration, an issue the federal government has sole authority over.

That means the law can go into effect while litigation continues in lower courts. It could still be blocked at a later date.

"The court gives a green light to a law that will upend the longstanding federal-state balance of power and sow chaos," liberal Justice Sonia Sotomayor wrote in a dissenting opinion.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams accused of sexual assault by former NYPD aide in new lawsuit

Source: CNN

A former NYPD aide is suing New York City Mayor Eric Adams, alleging he sexually assaulted her in 1993 while they both worked for the Transit Bureau when he demanded sexual acts in exchange for helping her get a promotion she was previously denied, according to a lawsuit filed Monday.

The plaintiff in the lawsuit alleges that Adams, who at the time was working in the New York City Police Department’s transit division and was then with the Guardians Association, a fraternal order of the police department, used his position to proposition her.

The suit follows a summons filed in New York County Supreme Court in November under the state’s Adult Survivors Act. Adams has denied the allegations and said he does not know the accuser.

The plaintiff is also suing the NYPD Transit Bureau and the NYPD Guardians Association. CNN has reached out to the parties for comment.

For those who are piano keyboard experts, when did they stop using the traditional MIDI "In and Out" ports?

It seems all the new ones switched to USB MIDI, but I need one with the two MIDI "In and Out" ports. So, what year did they last make them with those ports? Because those are the only ones I have use for.

Trump clinches delegate majority for GOP presidential nomination, setting up Biden rematch

Source: NBC News

Former President Donald Trump has secured enough delegates to seal the Republican presidential nomination, NBC News projects, setting up a 2024 rematch with President Joe Biden, who clinched the Democratic nomination earlier Tuesday night.

Trump came into Tuesday's contests in Georgia, Hawaii, Mississippi and Washington as the presumptive nominee after vanquishing all his primary opponents, while Biden faced little opposition in his primary. Former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley ended her bid for the Republican nomination last week after winning just one state on Super Tuesday.

Trump's projected victories Tuesday night pushed him over the 1,215 delegate mark — the "magic number" needed for a majority at the GOP's July convention in Milwaukee. Those delegates will be bound by party rules to support him, even as he faces looming court cases in four separate indictments.

The general election starts with Biden seeing his favorability dip below 40% in a spate of recent polls, below Trump, who also remains unpopular. While Biden ran ahead of Trump in virtually every major poll in 2020, recent polls have shown the race virtually tied, or with Trump holding a slight edge, with voters raising concerns about Biden's age and Trump's legal woes.

Happy Daylight Saving Time!

It's Daylight Saving Time! I love this time of the season. Yeah, we lose an hour but to me this signifies the first important step to ending Winter, and that Spring is around the corner.

Love it getting dark later, even if it takes a few days to get used to!

Pope Francis: Ukraine should have the courage of the 'white flag,' negotiate end of war with Russia

Source: ABC News

ROME -- ROME (AP) — Pope Francis said in an interview that Ukraine, facing a possible defeat, should have the courage to negotiate an end to the war with Russia and not be ashamed to sit at the same table to carry out peace talks.

The pope made his appeal during an interview recorded last month with Swiss broadcaster RSI, which was partially released on Saturday.

“I think that the strongest one is the one who looks at the situation, thinks about the people and has the courage of the white flag, and negotiates,” Francis said, adding that talks should take place with the help of international powers.

Ukraine remains firm on not engaging directly with Russia on peace talks, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said multiple times the initiative in peace negotiations must belong to the country which has been invaded.

Biden 'meant what he said' in saying he'll have 'come to Jesus meeting' with Netanyahu: VP Harris

Source: ABC News

In an interview with ABC News Friday, Vice President Kamala Harris reacted for the first time to President Joe Biden's hot mic comment in which he's heard saying he and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will soon have a "come to Jesus" conversation about the war in Gaza.

"He meant what he said," Harris told ABC News Chief White House Correspondent Mary Bruce. "Some of us grew up in communities where when a 'come to Jesus talk' is about having a serious talk, based on candor."

After delivering his high-stakes State of the Union address on Thursday, Biden was caught on a hot mic chatting with Democratic Sen. Michael Bennet of Colorado. Bennet told Biden he needed to "keep pushing" to get humanitarian aid into Gaza, to which Biden responded: "I told Bibi, don't repeat this, you and I are going to have a 'come to Jesus' meeting."

"I'm on a hot mic here. Good. That was good," Biden then says after being warned by an aide.

Biden campaign co-chair says president should've used different word than 'illegal'

Source: Politico

Mitch Landrieu, the national co-chair of Joe Biden’s reelection campaign, said Friday that Biden should have used a different word than “illegal” during his State of the Union address when describing the undocumented immigrant who allegedly murdered a Georgia medical student last month.

Biden’s off-the-cuff remark during the address Thursday caused backlash from several Democrats, including lawmakers who posted “no human being is illegal” in response on social media.

“He probably should’ve used a different word and I think he would know that. But what you should notice about that is not that he made a small mistake,” Landrieu said on CNN Friday morning. “The big thing that he didn’t write, and this is what this president always does, is express empathy to people, he expressed kindness to people. He understands because, as you know, he lost a number of children in his life.”

“Lincoln Riley, an innocent young woman who was killed by an illegal,” Biden said, mispronouncing her first name. “To her parents, I say my heart goes out to you.”
