trump's chief of staff Mulvaney owes 2.5M - says loan "will go unpaid"

https://mavenroundtable.io/theintellectualist/news/mulvaney-borrowed-1-4m-to-build-a-mall-it-wasn-t-built-nor-the-loan-repaid-Y9nU-aQRFUaREms8Rvcptw/?utm_source=Amplify&utm_medium=Intellectualist&utm_campaign=Twitter&utm_term=Derek%20Cressman

Mick Mulvaney said the loan—now $2.5 million with interest—"will go unpaid".

Eleven years ago, Mick Mulvaney was the co-owner of a company that wanted to build a strip mall in an upscale Charlotte community.

To finance the project, they borrowed $1.4 million from a family firm owned by Charles Fonville Sr.
The project fell apart, the mall was never built, and Mulvaney adopted a political career, which has recently resulted in his becoming President Trump’s acting chief of staff.

And Fonville never got his money back.

A sum that has now reached $2.5 million with interest was brushed off by Mulvaney as a bad real estate deal. He said that the sum “will go unpaid.”

The political battle that now rages between Mulvaney and Fonville threatens to tarnish Mulvaney’s reputation as a fiscally responsible political actor.

Fonville is accusing Mulvaney’s two companies of “intent to deceive,” “fraudulent acts,” and “breach of contract” to avoid payment of the loan.

Mulvaney’s lawyer, John R. Buric says Mulvaney has done nothing wrong. Fonville & Co. may not be repaid because it was a secondary lender in a project that was worth less than originally anticipated. The primary lender has the first right of repayment if the property is foreclosed on.

Paul Krugman Has A Scathing New Nickname For Donald Trump's Administration

Paul Krugman Has A Scathing New Nickname For Donald Trump’s Administration
The Nobel Prize-winning economist also said Trump surrounds himself with people of “extraordinarily low quality.”

Nobel Prize-winning economist Paul Krugman pulled no punches with his analysis of the people working under President Donald Trump.

In his latest column for The New York Times, Krugman described the people that Trump surrounds himself with as being of “extraordinarily low quality.”

“Lincoln had a team of rivals; Trump has a team of morons,” he wrote.

Krugman noted how working for the president used to be “a career booster, something that looks good on your résumé.” But Trump’s presidency was “so chaotic, corrupt and potentially compromised by his foreign entanglements that anyone associated with him gets tainted.”

“Only those with no reputation to lose, generally because they’re pretty bad at what they do” were now willing to serve Trump, he continued, adding “things have gotten even worse and even dumber” and “we haven’t hit bottom yet.”

If Karen Pence loves "moral purity"....

If Karen Pence loves "moral purity," she would have denounced Melania Trump for — for example -- posing naked and in handcuffs for a men's magazine when she worked as a model.

If she and her husband want to sign a pledge of moral purity, they should first hand it to the President of the United States for his own signature.

Michigan State's president to resign after he said sexual abuse victims enjoyed the spotlight

https://www.washingtonpost.com/education/2019/01/16/pressure-mounts-michigan-states-president-after-he-said-sexual-abuse-victims-enjoyed-spotlight/?utm_term=.e2c2ab19aa28

The interim president of Michigan State University is resigning, according to the chairwoman of the university’s trustees, and becomes the school’s second leader to step down under pressure because of the scandal involving a university physician accused of sexual abusing dozens of girls and women.

John Engler, a former Michigan governor, is quitting amid outrage over comments he made about women who were sexually abused by the disgraced former doctor.

Trustee Brian Mosallam said in an interview Wednesday that trustees would vote Thursday to terminate Engler if he did not resign.

-------------------

Engler said the next president will have many challenges but work has been done so that person can come in and look ahead.

But he acknowledged it's been a tough time, "very emotional."

"You’ve got people, they are hanging on and this has been … there are a lot of people who are touched by this, survivors who haven’t been in the spotlight," Engler said. "In some ways they have been able to deal with this better than the ones who’ve been in the spotlight who are still enjoying that moment at times, you know, the awards and recognition. And it’s ending. It’s almost done.”

Donald Trump's 'slenderizing' fashion trick? Long ties

The president encouraged Chris Christie to wear a long tie to appear thinner, the former governor wrote in his book

Donald Trump’s ‘slenderizing’ long ties – in pictures

Wear black, stay away from loud patterns, stick with vertical stripes. There are dozens of tips and tricks to wearing clothes that will make you appear slimmer. Turns out, Donald Trump has his own: wear your tie long. Very long.

Trump recommends the fashion hint as “slenderizing”. Or so he told New Jersey’s former governor and White House wannabe Chris Christie, according to the latter’s forthcoming book.

In the new memoir Let Me Finish, Christie wrote of how Trump encouraged him to wear a long tie to make him look thinner during the 2016 presidential campaign.

For anyone who’s met or seen a picture of Trump, it’s clear the president consistently heeds his own advice. The end of Trump’s tie usually falls well below his waistline. Trump then adjusts them to make the front much longer than the back, and infamously resorts to criss-crossed sticky tape to affix the stub of the back end to back of the front end …

Donald Trump’s tie flaps in the wind, revealing sticky tape attached to the back, as he arrives at Orlando international airport on 3 March 2017.

Woman who posted about Trump slams door on Secret Service agent
January 14, 2019
After reportedly posting online about hoping someone would shoot President Trump between the eyes, a woman in Texas was shocked to see a Secret Service agent at her door only a few hours later. According to her, he attempted to intimidate her and enter her home but stopped when her nephew started recording. After stating that she wanted a lawyer, the woman got the agent’s phone number and then slammed the door shut without waiting for him to leave.
